Seeing as its a bank holiday, we thought we'd kick off proceedings a bit earlier this week. The plan is to start from the Irwell Works Brewery at 6.00pm, so we can get a few hours of daylight in, and a few more miles than usual. Initial route is up to the tower then Bucky Woods, Irwell Vale, up through Edenfield for a play at Cragg Quarry, then Owd Betts back down to the brewery, where a few ales will most definitely be in order to round off the bank holiday. I'd still bring lights for the final stint down from the turbines

Ewwwwwwwwww. Bregante - if everyone's meeting at the brewery, could you shepherd everyone up the rake to the shoulder please, and I'll meet you there?

Much as I love you all, I'm not riding all the way down that hill, to turn round and ride back up it again! my legs are already protesting after a few days walking in Snowdonia. Fanks ๐Ÿ™‚

Looks like it's going to be a fine evening for it!

Binners - you know what Bregante is like with regards to organisation (and the brewery meeting place is quite apt!).

Any problems and i will help herd them up the hill!

He's right you know, I'm cack and avoid responsibility at all costs so I'll leave it to Craig.

He loves all that. He'll turn up with a clipboard and hi viz tabard if you give him a job to do. ๐Ÿ™‚

It's not normally open on a Monday, but they're open today. There's a car park right next to the brewery chaps

I'll keep my eyes open for the procession of tabards being marshalled up the Rake ๐Ÿ™‚

Well that was fun! Perfect conditions out there! Owd Betts descent is in fine nick! As was Michaels Wife Lane! Could have quite happily settled in to the brewery for the rest of the evening though. We need to sort out a Monday night pub ride where we don't ride anywhere! ๐Ÿ™‚

What a cracking ride. And a belting boozer!

Binners you either need to convince the landlord to open on Mondays, or We need to start adding a mid week ride to the calendar!

I'm currently gorging myself on ibuprofen.

Great ride tonight Binners! Loved it!

On reflection - adding 12 miles riding over was a big mistake but that aside it was really good - im knackered now!

Thanks to Bregante and Dawson for helping me up when i took a tumble and more thanks to Bregante for deliberately taking a tumble himself just to make me feel less inadequate! ๐Ÿ˜€

Even more thanks to Bregante for giving us a lift home and saving us from the road ride back. Bregante is my hero! ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Anyway, shame we didn't do that Brewery place justice - it felt like a right good place to have a few good ales!

I'm feeling a bit bruised and battered this morning. And I had a relatively soft landing. And another big thanks to Bregante (our hero), for pulling me out of the gulley I ended up down, upside down, too ๐Ÿ˜ณ

How are the other fall-ees? Bregante went down really bloody hard!! He was seriously shifting as he came past me, with his front wheel pointing in a rather different position to the one in was meant to be in. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ Then he hit the deck like the proverbial sack of spuds

Where abouts on the route did these crashes happen?

I went down first after the river bed and before Michael Wife Lane. Hard thud onto my right hand side - shoulder hip and knee all aching today!

Second was Binners on the trail after the top of the Coal Road climb. Innocuous fall but then a slide upside down down the banking.

Bregante was on hand to assist on the first 2 occasions but then came off on the trail up to Cragg. An unexpectedly deep section of mud sent him flying - poorly hand as a result!

He was seriously shifting as he came past me

Yes he must have had the turbo burners on Binners!

See, in my minds eye it was quite graceful. Almost balletic. ๐Ÿ™‚

A fast moving balletic sack of spuds! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Absolutely tipping it down in my neck of the woods this morning, so I think I was lucky to visit while it was so dry.

That grassy descent from the turbines was ace.

Turbines descent / owd betts was indeed ace. For an extra adrenaline rush I can recommend trying it one handed!

Binners, didn't you come off there last time as well?

Indeed. The descent down to Waughs Well is one of my regular OTB venues. For some reason when I get up there, the altitude must effect me, and I delude myself into thinking I can actually ride. Then reality enters into proceedings, usually with me wedging my front wheel between two rocks, then the usual predictable result. Last nights was particularly amusing, as I then disappeared off down the banking in a roly-poly fashion

TBH Binners I think that the climb up the Coal Road leaves you feeling knackered and once you get onto that trail - the fatigue plays a part in the mistakes.

Whilst i didn't see you fall, i did imagine a sort of roly-poly incident... ๐Ÿ˜€

Thanks for showing us round there Gents. It was all new to me.

disappeared off down the banking in a roly-poly fashion
It was quite elegant. Followed by a brief dead-spider imression lying at the bottom of the bank while doing the mental 'what have I damaged' routine. ๐Ÿ˜†
