You'll be lucky, Most of Rivvy and Winter Hill is currently a no go area for walkers etc full closures of all footpaths & bridleways

Bazza… do we have a Plan B?

There's always Prestwich, Turton or Rammy that we can use in an emergency.

It's me leading Baz had double booked.

It's why we're at the crown not the crofters I've got some alternative routes that you'll enjoy.....

Also by Monday I expect a lot if exclusions to be lifted

IMO I think you're mad meeting there.

Turton, Darwen, Entwistle, Rammy - anything but anywhere near winter hill.

But I realise you do know that.

I took this yesterday -  https://photos.app.goo.gl/7Uapjk1PemQbqDn67

Does anyone know if you can still use George’s Lane? It looks like it forms one side of the boundary so I’m not sure if it’s still usable? Hoping to ride over it on to Great Hill Sunday morning.

Yes im hoping to be out tonight. Dunc - i trust that we are staying out of the exclusion zone rather than just nipping through the woods etc to avoid the road blocks? Let me know as i'd rather avoid the area and let the pro's continue their good work in battling the fire.

Mrs Daz is out tonight so I'm on kids-watch. Also have a new road bike to build which is very, very exciting 😉

Road bike eh? Bringing it next week?

I did a recce yesterday for the road ride. There is an alternate route up Ashworth Road, but it involves a fair bit of farm track & gravel. Just to keep it interesting.

Hell yeah, it'll be as fast as **** !! About 50% of the time I go out on my carbon road bike, I get a bit bored at some point and end up giving it a bit of an offroad ragging. Doesn't everyone?

Maybe, working in Bury and just picked up a new SS off the classifieds so actually have a bike with me.

Then realised it's geared 32-14 (and wagon wheels) and has flat pedals, so hills aint happening. What's the route like? Bearing in mind I've been working away and not riding for two months and have been indulging in a Premier Inn breakfast every morning to compound my bikes silly gearing.

I think that we are staying low to avoid the restricted area. Dunc will hopefully confirm.

Dunc. Is this CX friendly BTW?

Doesn’t everyone?

I recently rode a decently rocky section of the PBW on a road bike with 28mm slicks. If HtS promises to replace the deep section carbon wheels in the event of any damage then I'm game 🙂

as far as i remember (i did the recce ride with Dunc the other night), we're going up past liverpool castle, along rivi res past go ape then over the bridge between rivi and anglezarke, up from there to healey nab for a lap of the red and then i'm not sure where he's planning from then, but might involve brinscall woods as long as it's not cordoned off. quite a bit of up behind the barn seemed open last night when i was out, but we can't go up from there in/past the gardens so i'm not certain right now. i'd agree with craig that we should stay out of the taped off zone.

most, if not all is going to be CX friendly, yeah. except for maybe the nab, in places... we recce'd it on pinnacle arkoses, if that's any guide.

hoping to be there. since the pub is less than 100 metres from my house, i should make the effort!

CX? It's a TdF inspired ride not the Strade Blanche! Tell you what, anyone wanting to get their bikes dirty can go up the farm track, the rest of us can stick to the roads.

Ashworth Road is closed due to a landslip. The only route up is on about a mile of farm tracks. Gravel. No potholes. Very little in the way of beast shit.

Also, the only route east out of Simister is on farm tracks. Again, think dust not bomb holes. To be truthful the roads are probably worse with all of the speed humps.

I did it on my 22mm 120 psi tyres at the weekend and did not suffer any death at all.

Sorry guys but not going to make it as I have to be back early. Will probably try and go for a run instead! Have a good one.

With regards t next week, I did that loop a few weeks back and took the road around the eastern fringes through Norden. Admittedly it misses the Ashworth Valley climb but it was far from easy and didn't add too much time...

I had a look yesterday. It is fine, if a little dusty.

https://www.strava.com/activities/1688721067

It brings you out about a third the way up Ashworth Road.
