The wheels on the other halfs bike are getting a bit long in the tooth (deore rear/ no name front on 317). I have some spare wheels (bulb hubs on 317). However, my spare wheels are the old splined 5 bolt system (which I think looks much nicer but that's not the point).
My question is, will my 5 bolt rotors 185/165, 14mm deep (from Hope E4 brakes) work in place of here 6 bolt 180/160 16mm deep rotors for Avid Juicy 5s? I know I can space up the caliper a little to align the top of the rotor with the top of the pad to take accound of the 2.5mm difference but I'm wonder if the depth of braking surface will make a significant difference. I would mean that the bottom 2 mm of the pad would brake against the rotor arm rather than the braking surface. Anyone have any experience of this? Will it work of does she need a new set of Hope Hoops?
i've got that setup and had no probs. Just keep an eye on them to check for excessive wear to the rotor arms.
Cheers Clubber, always reassuring when someone else has done exactly the same thing before. Plus the money I save, I can spend on my bike!
