So I can't really fix my bike, and most jobs more complex than a tyre change leave me so physically furious I want to drive an allen key into my own leg.

But I took a deep breath, (after checking I wouldn't need to do my own bleed) and removed old Juicy 3 brakes before fitting new Deores front and rear. Minimal swearing, all tools and parts present and correct, and they seem to work.

Just had to share that. Thanks.

Next step - plucking up the courage to shorten the hoses.

Timnwild - you sound like me! However through stubborn perseverance I have now progessed to rear hubs and am even considering next weekend stripping a set of forks and servicing air springs! No doubt reality will sharply intrude minutes into the procedure.
