Alternative to On One as they don't seem likely to get the older design that came about 4" above the ankle back in ever?

I actually liked their socks especially the price. Most alternative I've come up with has been around the price of a threepack or more for one pair. I tend to wear these daily as normal socks dure to my riding habit so over a tenner a pair is getting quite wince worthy...

The On One ones are crap and shrink! My favourite at the moment at the Vulpine ones, not cheap but I love the longer stripey ones! Very comfy, wash well and don't shrink.

I recently got 6 pairs of Ulvang ones off eBay for £8.50

Been used so far in near zero conditions running / cycling and kept my feet toasty warm even when saturated

I got a pack of those Ulvang ones off eBay a few months ago, these & they've been great! A bit of a mixed bag of colours & thickness but they're £7.64 now for 6 pairs so you can't really go wrong, i've washed them in with cotton stuff at 40 degrees and they've been fine - can't remember who posted the original link to them but thanks again whoever you are!

*Edit - I have a few lots of the On-One efforts & the thin ones shrank from a size 9 to a size 3 after 2 washes - my missus wears those now. On the other hand the thicky ones are going strong, I suspect they have a lower merino content though...

Defeet.... although I find the Woolie Boolie far too warm, but the Wool-e-ator is lighter and better, for me. Either way,t he quality of them is brilliant, all my Defeet socks are years old, still all perfect.

WBs are good but too thick for me.

The Castelli Gregge are good, but obviously pricier than the One Ones (which are great value).

Defeet Wooleators or Woolie Boolie .

Awesome socks that last for ages and more than justify the price tag .

This echos my experience exactly, the thicky ones are actually OK, thinny I can no longer physically get on my feet

Have got some from Alpinestars, 100% and Troy Lee they are all pretty good

The Astars and 100% socks are engineered (to use a marketing term) lots of stretch panels and tactical inserts etc. Light and thin but warm

I've had some of the Ulvang ones for a while and they're good. That price is ridiculous ^^^^^ assuming they aren't too defective as seconds.

Baa baas are fine while they last, but that's not really long enough imo. My woolie boolies and giro winters seem like they'll go on forever.

On-one socks are pathetic. However, all of the following have been good IME - Assos, Woolie Boolie, Defeet or Endura Baa Baa.

I'd might as well chip in.

Ulvang - 3/5 mine have shrunk. (30C cotton wash mostly). Might buy more in a size up as they're VG VFM otherwise, no defects.
Woolie Boolie - 4/5 lasted great, would like they were longer though.
Edura Baa Baa - 2/5 less comfy, less warm and go baggy.

Before these I had a load of the Garburn oens off ebay. They were great and took years to wear out (they went bald but no holes). Would have bought more but wanted longer ones.

i have 3 or 4 pairs of the on one merino signature socks and they have lasted well, no shrinking after a yr or 2 of weekly use. The BaaBaa ones shrank very quickly 🙁 have a few pairs of Rapha ones from their half price sales and they are pretty good too 🙂

I love the ebay Ulvang ones. Mine haven't shrunk and I wear them every day so have washed them loads.
On offer for the next few hours apparently - I've just ordered more.

Another vote for Woolie Boolie from me, an ageing poor peripheral perfusion sufferer. Coupled with Defroster boots work a treat.
Equally, have been disappointed with Baa Baa's which start out fine but become uncomfortable quickly then fall apart.

Thanks for the Ulvang suggestion. Just bought a bunch off ebay to try out. Even cheaper at the moment on mcj78 link - cheers

Got some of thinner Ulvang ones a few weeks ago after I heard about them on hear. For the money they're a steal; use them as my everyday socks now. Just ordered some more as well as some of the thicker ones!

Ta, I'll check the Ulvang and go from there. My oldest OO socks were ace, anything from the last couple of years is shrinky rubbish though, I'll agree. Obviously changed factory. The worst affected set was one that accidentally went in the dryer though - but shouldn't be surprising for wool! 🙂

Thanks people!

I had a pair of Endura baa baa last about 5 uses before the heel wore out. The Titus El Guapo from OO have lasted years, not sure how much wool they have though? Going to try the Ulvang next.

Woolie Boolies for when it's proper baltic, Pearl Izumi for when it's not.

Quality tends to vary wildy in merino socks but in my experience these are good'uns.

The Rapha city socks are lovely but more 'man about town' than actual riding socks really.

Also worth mentioning: Sockguy Turbowool socks. For me they are the top of the Socks World.

i swear by rapha socks, the 'winter' socks are fantastic and when things get really cold the 'deep winter' versions are amazing. really thick and go up to the knee. and they don't cost a fortune...

I've been really impressed with these from Garburn

And like everyone else my wife has benefited from the on-one shrinkage - I'm a size 12, she's a size 4 ! But she says the socks are great !!

I also now have the ulvang socks on the way from ebay. The sellers must be wondering what's going on!

Nah, you want the Castelli cashmere, £60. I'm actually enjoying the primaloft and silk.

Okay, for the Ulvang owners - should I be looking at 'everyday' or 'hiking/walking' from the eBay listing? I'm guessing they're basically thinny and thicky... ?
