But you know, every time you have a bit of footage you really want, there's a huge glob of mud on the camera or you took 1 photo instead of recording

Or the action goes under a tree at just the moment you want to see it.

The comment on Facebook now seems to have disappeared. Can you remove peoples comments from your own posts?

Yes you can

Got to say watching ^, I'm struggling to see the attraction of MA as an event. Not so much a race as a lottery and an event where being an antisocial arse helps you make progress. Can you do the same route on another day or is it open for the event only? Is that the attraction?

That's kind of how I've always felt about it, I'd probably end up in the procession since i'm not super-fast, and I'm not an aggressive overtaker or cheat. But most people who've done it rave about it so I've assumed that it's one of those things that you really need to do, to get.

EN1 on the map

I intending on doing it next year, I have a score to settle with the mega. I think the carnage is half the appeal, 350 mass start on a glacier etc... the an hour gruelling hour of overtaking people and being overtaken.

It's a race at the end of the day - riding aggressively is part of the package if you want to do well.

That said, it's possible to not be a douche, take people out & still do well. I managed my first year to come from the 8th row back in my quali (when they were bigger, 250 per heat) to qualify for the main race & I wasn't fast back then.

You just have to think outside the box with line choice. If there isn't tape, it's a total free reign. If you're a sheep, and follow the main line, it's just a precession all the way down.

The actual race is worse in that respect, once off the glacier, if you are in the pack, until you get near to ADH it can be pretty tedious, unless you take some big risks. It opens up after that though.

Bloke cuts 100m off the course bypassing a switchback type corner to avoid a queue.

And changed his helmet when he rejoined the course, so it was a different colour.

I was more concerned about how blurry the "go-pro" footage was. Certainly couldn't make out a race number on the guy that pretended to be bertie.

don't really get why fellow mtb'ers in the business are trying defend/ignore/remove it like it never happened, its as blatant cheating as you'll see, enough for ben deakin, to call him out mid ride, and be pissed off...as I'm sure all others he cheated out of a place would be too if theyd seen it

if hes happy to cheat as a pro rider he should be happy with the consequences of it, and getting murdered by the general public (fellow mtb'ers), not just ignoring it like it never happened, deleting comments on his own insta of people calling him a cheat, but happy to take the adjulation of get 27th overall ๐Ÿ™„

I imagine he's denying it and things are being removed as a precaution.

Perhaps we'll hear something from the race organisers soon.

This will stay with him for the rest of his career anyway... note the comment about Joe Barnes in this thread.

Did I miss something? When did Joe Barnes cheat?
Google shows that results have been removed when searching the term 'Joe Barnes cheat' or similar.

Joe was banned from the original UKGE series for some creative line choice.

If it were me and I had been wrongly accused i would not be deleting peoples comments more proving it was not me and making a statement on my social media pages to that effect.

They've cleaned up well after that mess then! I can't find any results on Google using any terms. Every term I try, Google says 'Some results may have been removed under data protection law in Europe.'

Agreed...either speak our or withdraw from the race as far as i'm concerned. Sure i feel for him if it isnt actually him, but in this world of social media courts you are guilty until proved innocent nowadays.

Weird eh? Any other sport it'd be big news that a well known participant was cheating!
Was that not also the second offence after a Hamsterley "screw the trail, take the fireroad" incident? (Possibly also done by Dan Atherton?)

Search really hard and you might be able to find out something about Karim Amour getting a different ban

Am I right in thinking there was a big feature in Dirt on course taping in enduro, with Joe asked some pointed questions about shortcuts but no outright accusations?

It followed an incident where the race organisers had felt a line was too obvious to require taping, IIRC. So any cheating was more of a matter of interpretation.

iirc the trail dropped off the side of a fireroad and rejoined a hundred yards further down. They just didn't bother their arse taking the trail ๐Ÿ™‚

isn't that where the phrase 'spirit of enduro' arose?

I've got to say, if it was me in that race I wouldn't have been able to be sure which rider it was that came past after cutting in, and it's not at all clear from the footage that it was 1613. Anyway, in his shoes I'd be doing what I could but probably engaging with the race organisers first as people on social media can be somewhat mobbish at times. I'll be interested to see the outcome.

The comment above about "too obvious to be taped" seems a bit odd - surely that translates as "too lazy to tape the course but then upset when people see another line"?

This was in the early days of enduro in the UK.

MA is 32km long isn't? That's a lot of tape and stakes.

Basically this - the course wasn't taped properly & was left open to be abused, but they 'spirit' for want of better phrase was to follow the actual trail. Not sure technically he did anything wrong - he didn't cut the tape, he just bent the rules. But then there is an argument it should have been taped properly.

The Karim Armour thing - wasn't he banned for doping?

Karim Amour ban was for a masking agent IIRC.

And I think the ban got imposed out of season.

He seems to be back in full effect and very competitive now anyway.

Et voila...

I thought the French were pretty harsh on le dopage, but perhaps not in all cases.
