borrowed some lumicycles halogens for mayhem, need to buy some lights now. do i buy these which have been great and well thought of or do iget a 2 bulb exposure bar mount, plus or instead a joystick with an extra bulb?
I used to run a Lupine on the bars and a joystick on the helmet. Got these a few weeks ago (the mtb kit with Gecko mounts), really good quality, plenty of power and battery life
I ran a Hope 4 LED on the bars and a Tesco 3W cree torch on my helmet (£8, 2AA batteries) at Mayhem which worked fine. Spend the money on the bars lights and get a cheap LED torch and attachement for the helmet (it's also good to have at least one light that takes normal batteries 😉 )
Used a Hope 4 LED also, with a Petzl E+lite as a backup hung around my neck.
Ran on low power most of the time, one rider shouted at me to switch my light on going up the last climb, I noted that his light on full power was drowning mine, and was pretty unnecessary on a climb. Why low power? Bit paranoid given previous races doing laps with failed lights, in reality I could have run them at full power and been fine.
thanks for comments, different battery for head makes sense, i used a opticube
I ran a Hope 4 LED and Lupine Passubio on the bars and Hope 1 LED on my helmet. Worked a treat! Had them running on a medium setting most of the time. Hope 1 is useful as it takes normal AA batteries (and lasts at around 3 hrs on full) so easy to swap if you run out of power.
Selling the Lupine now though as it was probably a bit overkill!
i ran a dinotte 200l with 2 cell battery on my head and a twin dinotte 140l set up on my bars last year.
Fine. Like dougal i experianced tossers shouting at me to put lights on when i climbed using only my head mounted light at half power (2.5 watts LED) ....which is what i ride with mostly when i night ride anyway. Due to their lights overpowering mine.
I just turned and shone it in the offenders eyes which shut them up !
Would definantly recomend 1 x headlamp and 1x bar lamp even if it means not getting as fancypants lights as each on their own has its draw backs - headlamp creates unruley shaddows and bar mounts dont allow you to see round corners/where you are looking.
Team mates have had no problems with current USE exposures and we have about 10 Lights of all flavors from them on the go now used at most endurance events and every friday night ALL year round no bother. When i bought my dinottes USE had a reputation for dying very easy. Today id have no problems droping coin on USE exposure lights other than that i have no coin to drop 😀
