Have the opportunity of one . Are they any good? What stops the front wheel/handlebar from moving around during transit?
I had one and thought it was very good had to get rid when got a new car as towbar was too expensive. I used to use and old strap an link front wheel to the rear wheel to keep it all from moving .
Looks crap. All the bikes just hanging from a bar, free to swing around and bash off each other?
My parents have one, a really old one. Gotta say it's pretty good. A simple strap, or two, is all thats need to hold the wheels in line and stop the bikes bouncing off one another.
Another +1 for not getting it. If you're getting a towbar setup anyway, why not just get the standard Thule/Atera type rack? The sort where you don't have to awkwardly dangle the number plate/lighting board on the back, you can remove bikes one by one, no issues with them rubbing against each other etc?
Using an Atera Strada at the moment, the bikes are locked in individually, wheels held in place, it holds 2.8" tyres easily, price not hugely dissimilar.
I particularly liked that it took up no room in bits in the boot, so I always had it In there. It proved rather useful when I accidentally bought another bike at the York cycle show
So far it's two all, two that have actually used one and like them and two against that haven't 😉 good ole stw never let's you down
I'm on my 2nd (third if you count the one my father had when we were kids....)
I bought an upgrade kit when I got a bigger car to rake mine from a 2 to 4 bike carrier, can't say it's ever disappointed me, the only thing I don't like is the wheels overhang more on one side due to the offset to get around the spare wheel....
Bikes don't move in use not had an issue with them swinging or bashing together, the strap holds them into place well even with a paint protecting rag in place.
Number plate hanger is a bit pants but with a strategically placed bungy, it also doesn't move.
Handy also if you want to tow a small camping trailer, that is if your nose weight isn't completely thrown off....
I also like that it comes apart into nice sized bits I can hide in the secret compartments in the boot.
Yup, I have one, got it for £40 from eBay - at that price you really can't complain.
As mentioned above you need to secure the bike to stop it swinging, and make sure the frames are protected but other than that it's been fine. I may get something to put between the bikes to stop them bashing - something like yoga mat foam or some such.
