Anybody know how much bigger the WT Minions blow up than the regular ones? Maxxis sizing is usualy all over the shop so do they come up as a true 2.5 or more like a 2.3/2.4? Would they be overkill on a T130? I was thinking a lighter set of tyres was the way to go but thinking of playing to my weakness (cornering) a bit more than my strengths (climbing/fitness)

In this months issue of singletrack they said the Minion DHF WT 2.5 measured up around 2.49, not sure what size rim that was on though.

There was also an article on facebook too by Bird MTB where he discussed maxxis tyre sizes and rim widths using the standard 2.5 vs the WT 2.5 Minion

No experience of the normal Minions, but just got a WT DHF. On a 30mm internal rim it looks to be just about the same size (maybe a tiiiny bit smaller) as a 2.35" Hans Dampf. If that helps at all. ๐Ÿ˜†

Only had one ride on it so far, but I'm already impressed with the cornering grip and seems to roll surprisingly well too!

I have a DHF 2.5 (think that's WT) on 29 mm internal and a DHF 2.3 on 25 internal mounted at home, email me tomorrow evening and I might be able to answer.

But simply, they're a nice amount wider. the 2.5 WI is similar to a Magic Mary 2.35 but wider on the carcass and narrower on the shoulders than the MM. That is partly down the the wider rims used between the two tyres so not a perfect comparison.

Bikeradar just reviewed the 2.5 (in 29er flavour) and there's measurements etc here: http://www.bikeradar.com/mtb/gear/category/components/tyres/mountain/product/maxxis-minion-dhf-3c-exo-29x25-review-50928/

WT tyres are apparently designed to work well with wider rims so I can't see why it'd be overkill on a T130.

I've been running one on my Scout, it's ace. Like all the other Minions I've ever used. Just a bit bigger in width and volume. This is on 29mm internal AM Classic rims. Whilst the WT is apparently aimed at 35mm internal rims they give a bit more volume even with narrower (but still quite wide) rims, which works for me.

Since the weathers been a bit crap lately I've switched it to a 2.5 WT shorty, which I've not used yet, but is an absolute monster of a thing. That's in the double defence/MaxxGrip flavour which I concede may be a bit overkill! Will be interesting to see how that goes.

Why? Like ehrob I'm thinking about putting one on my Scout which is a similar bike to the T130.

I don't trust the measurements on that review. Either they've been done with brand new tyres which haven't expanded to their long-term size or they've measured to the casing, not the knobs, or both, but their Maxxis Exo tyres are measuring up far smaller than the ones I have.

The only other explanation is that all the Maxxis 29er tyres are narrower than the equivalent 27.5 ones.

I'm running a 2.5 WT Shorty on the front and a 2.3 Shorty at the back and the 2.5 WT is usefully larger, similar to a 2.35 Magic Mary in size (which is a BIG tyre). I'm not sure how much fun it would be as a rear tyre but up front it rolls hardly any slower but grips a lot more.
