[Closed] Maxxis High Roller II 3C Maxx Terra or Maxxis High Roller II 60a?!?

The 3C is quite a bit grippier - softer rubber on the outside. For a front tyre, that's what I'd go for.

I believe Maxx Terra is basically 70a carcass, 50a centre knobs, 42a side knobs. It certainly feels bloody grippy and rolls surprisingly well.

I'd prefer something different from a HR2 on the front

Happy with the one I have on the back though

EDIT: minion isn't that much more expensive is it?

I have a 3c maxterra HR2 up front on my banshee. Great tyre. Grips to everything and rolls really well. What's not to like 🙂

My 3C Exo tyre on the front is the confusingly named DHR2. Only done 3 rides on it but Strava approves! 😉

I've been running a 3C HR2 since December done 1100 miles so far, it's hardly worn I've ran it both front and rear, had it on the back when it was wet with a Shorty up front and now it's back on the front with a DHR2 out the back. It's a really good tyre, I prefer it up front it's really grippy on almost everything and rolls pretty well a world away from the original high roller.

I would go 3C out of the two

Decent in loose and sandy the HR2 out here in NZ as a front tyre. Had mine shipped from Germany, so much cheaper than buying local.

Everyone I know using the 3C HR2 has been ripping the side knows off, even on the front (me included and I'm not that fast or heavy).

My 3C HR2 has performed great on the front (29" and 2.3), but I've just noticed thin lines forming around the side knobs.

The DHR2 on the rear (60a) does not have these, and is same age.

I haven't used the HR2 but the Minion DHR2 is quite similar, just not as open a tread and with thicker blocks so a little more suited to drier and less loose conditions:

I know! Same compounds though. Confusingly named because it's the DownHill Rear but I'm running it on the front of a trail bike with a single ply (Exo) carcass.

The difference with the minion is it comes up much rounder than the HRII, to get the best out of any HR you need to get it over the edge and hope it bites where as the minions tend to grip more on the way.

interesting, id heard that the DHR2 was better in the wet than an HR2

3C front 60a rear and DHRII 3C sideknobs do crack never on the rear I never have had a 3C HR II so not sure if it is worse.
