We're off to Pila for a long weekend and thinking of sticking a pair of these on for the trip in 2.5 front / 2.4 rear, EXO MaxxTerra. They recommend rims 30-35mm, but mine are 29mm. Will I die?

Nope, you'll be fine. Good choice I reckon.

this is what I have on 30mm rims. The -1mm might mean the difference between death and non-death but it seems unlikely.

I used the same tyre combo in La Thuile last year, my rims are only 28mm. I did not suffer any ill consequence. You'll be fine.

I would be interested to know what you think of the dhf and how plump it is on your rims. 🙂

The DHF 2.5in would be perfect for Pila - but with your rims I'd go for the DHF 2.49 and DHR 2.39 instead, just to be on the safe side.

I'll post a pic when it's fitted. Usually use a Magic Mary Super Gravity 2.35 so not sure if the difference will be night and day, but Minions seem to be the go to tyre these days.

I'll put them on a boil wash and hopefully they'll shrink a little.

I put initially ran these on a set of 29 mm rims. They rode absolutely fine, but I got called a square on the local uplift.

Running 30 mm now.

I'm running a DHF 2.5WT on a 27mm internal width rim.

I've not ripped the tyre off the rim, nor died. Not even once.

It'll be fine, we used to put 2.5 tyres on Mavic 721s. WT does make a difference but not that much.

If I was you I'd want a bit more beef in the back, though. Not because Pila is super hard on tyres, more because the run down to the town is way long enough to start making mistakes and whacking the back wheel off stuff you should't.

Consider something Double Down for the rear but width wise, you'll be fine.

I don’t rate the DHF or DHR as better than the Magic Mary SuperGravity. They’re also really heavy in DD and WT form.

Try a dhr 11 on the front and the dhf on the rear,
Running this combo now on my Spesh Enduro and love it

Just put a dhr2 2.4 wt on the back of mine, feels a lot heavier and pretty draggy compared to the 2.3

I’ve run the 2.5wt dhf on a 25mm internal rim and that was fine.

The dhr2wt is pretty draggy - if uplifting it’s fine but I took mine off after a few rides as it made the bike feel really hard work (in fairness I ride a lot at trail centres though). In future will be using the 2.3 version again.

I run a DHR 2.4 WT on a 25mm internal and it's fine, good tyre. That's up front, I run a regular DHR 2.3 on the rear for clearance.

I’ve just swapped Minions for Wildenduros.
They roll a lot quicker & the front feels a lot more progressive leaning into corners.

IME the big difference between the WT versions and the regular 2.3 is that the tread has been scaled up on the WT. The blocks are bigger and further apart. I did count how many rows there were at some point (sad) and there are fewer on the WT but I can't remember the numbers. DHR2 WT is a bit draggy but I favour grip over rolling so am fine with it

I sold a kidney and went for the EXO+ version in the end. Hoping they'll be tough enough for Pila but still light enough to pedal in the UK.

Well shit.

I did what the op said and I actually died 🙁

Screw you guys and your fly-by-night attitude to safety!
