For my XC bike....would be going for the 2.1 exc version, running tubeless. Thinking the Aspen is more suited to the back....

I guess depends what the trail conditions are like, there's not a whole lot of grip on an Aspen so like you say I'd normally use it on the rear only. My standard setup is Advantage front and Crossmark rear although being lazy a couple of years back I ended up with an Aspen front and Advantage rear for one race and it worked fine (dry trails), doesn't really make much sense as a combo like that though :p

I use Advantage on the front of my Mega for all xc and they are spot on. Bit wider though I think than 2.1
I would have the Advantage up front (I have both tyres). Although I found the exception series Aspen very thin walled, and ripped it open pretty quickly. I was possible unlucky, but worth bearing in mind. Don't know how the Advantage EXC would compare, I run an LUST.

Confirmed my thinking, advantage just bought!
I'd put the Advantage at the back and an Ardent up front.
