sus forks 100-120mm
discs
decent kit
not opposed to second hand
Boardman?
aye plus canyon - what about second hand?
I've got a 2010 Boardman Team FS that I need to get up for sale (as long as I don't buy a new frame and transfer the parts over!). Would fit right in the lower end of that budget I think..... Might actually be 140mm right enough.
Or an On-One - get a really nice lightly-used build for that.
Steve - pics and details and i will pass them on to him asap
If he wants to buy new, for that kind of money, Have a look at Voodoo' as well as the Boardmans in halfords
They look great value for the money

If it was me, I'd be looking second hand though. You'd get something nice for 600 dabs
take a look at www.paulscycles.co.uk I haven't used them but they have come up in a few other treads like this in the past.
He has some cracking deals on Giant hard tales that may suit
Or even this mongoose Teocali full sus

Blimey! You can get a brand new full susser with half decent kit - which i seem to recall got decent write ups - for under £600! 😯
http://www.btwincycle.com/EN/8-1-2011-170473852/ bargin and they get good reviews.
.
Warranty :5 years on frame/ 2 years on fork/shock absorbers/ parts (excluding wearing parts).
I read that as £5600 - a strangely specific price, to which my answer would probably have been a custom steel frame + plenty of bling.
But as it is, what they said up there.
If their road bikes are anything to go by then their MTB's should be a bargain.
Cycle to Work Scheme?
Have a Merlin Malt 4 coming up for sale soon. It's a couple of years old but has not seen a massive amount of use. Actually a cracking bike - just too small for Junior now. Should be perfect size for your mate. Probably no more than £200. Light and fast.
If he's still interested I got a Cannondale Prophet 2 in team colours for sale with Juicey 3's, Mazziochi 44 15mm, sram x-5 with goodridge cable outers and fox R23 rear shock willing to take 550. It's in descent condition and has rear shock adjustment for XC/AM which adjusts head angle.

It's the 2010 Team FS, full spec on the link:

Tyres and rotors have been changed (160 -> 185 feels much better stopping now but can easily change back) it's on a 2.1 high roller rear and 2.4 Mountain King front, could probably put 2.1 high rollers all round, just switched to the MK at the weekend as it had a skinny mud tyre on.
Oh yeah, shock is one ride old and upgraded to the RST I think via warranty replacement, will check when home.
Condition is pretty good, bit of cable rub. Not had a huge amount of use, built a steel hardtail up out of parts shortly after I got it and haven't ridden much else!
Can do pics when I get home later.
EDIT with size - it's a medium.
I've got a Kona king kikapu with fox float rl 100 forks full xt raceface finishing kit size 18 in as new condition. Fantastic bike with full scandium race frame. £550
NICKF x 2
with discount and within budget
@dogmatrix I do at the moment, a mate of mine keeps ****ing me around saying he's gonna buy it but if your still looking let me know.
