Greetings to the STW Crowd ๐
I have been trying to figure it out through forums etc but can't come to a final conclusion so any info will be highly appreciated.
Basically, I've read many times that Marzocchi Roco Air shocks are 'hard to get full travel'. OK, that's fine by me and I just always assumed that they're so bottom-out proof that on most designs and under many people they just don't get the last 3 mm of travel or so.
That was until I actually tried a Marzocchi Roco Air LO shock in 200 * 57 size. The shock, even fully deflated, would return only around 53 mm of travel until the hard stop. With my frame design it was especially apparent since with Fox RP23 or Monarch Plus the rear tire would hit the seat tube cable stop at full compression while with Roco Air it was far from this.
So I just returned the Roco Air assuming it was overfilled with oil or faulty in some other way. But kept reading and here or there still would see that people mention that these shocks are either hard or impossible to get full travel.
So the question is - are Marzocchi Roco Air shocks designed to be slightly short on travel, circa 3 mm or so, and just never deliver the full claimed shaft travel, or are they just really bottom out proof and I had a lemon?
What's your experience? Have you ever tried checking the full shock travel by fully deflating it and cycling the suspension?
Reason I'm asking is because I really want a good bottom-out proof shock and Marzocchis seem a good candidate. Well, if they ARE bottom out proof and not just short on travel, that is ๐
