I hope he's going to pay for any damage caused to the car, no excuse for hitting a stationary object, the road was plenty wide enough!

Endurogangster - that is an interesting point, who would pay for the damage? As the road is closed does the owner (of the car) accept that the organisers / cyclists cannot be held liable for any damage etc. I used co-drive on forest stage rallies and I know there were various disclaimers by the organisers stating that they could no be held liable for death, injury or damage on tickets that were sold to the public / or at the entrance to the stages.

Seems Cav was looking down then went straight into the Focus. God knows what he was looking at but he smacked his head on the wheel of that Quasqui in front.

There are a few comments on other websites saying the Tour is unsafe due to parked cars but those cars were parked fine. More of a concern has been the big gaps between the lead group and the peloton which haven't been covered by the Police or Escort group.

On Mondays stage, at least 2 cars turned into the closure due to the big gaps as the motorists must have thought the race had come through. These videos have been posted on You Tube.

Simmy - between the lead group and the peloton there was a 20 minute gap and in that gap there were vans / bikes / cars going up and down Beeley Bar which I thought would be an accident waiting to happen. Very odd!

I can only assume there was a cross wind coming up that rise pushing everyone over to the RHS of the road, looks from that film that mark was just a bit further over than thoes in front and wasn't looking up us the others peeled more into the middle of the road. His wheel looks to have caught the front wheel of the car as he tried a last gasp dodge to avoid it.

Looks a sore one, hope he is back soon.

That'll be why we have insurance through British Cycling for third parties then.

Nasty crash!
