Don't fear the damper on Manitou forks. Embrace the (incorrectly coloured) knobs!

I just wish they'd put the arch in the correct position then I could concentrate on the performance rather than the ugliness.

'Tis correct position already! But yeah. If it was in the more normal position then the fork wouldn't weigh <1800g or have greater structural stiffness than a normal-arched fork.

LOL at Manitou nerd comment in the article. True.

This is one of those instances where the correct engineering solution looks wrong. I'm not sure I could ever get used to looking down on a fork and not seeing a bridge on the front.  Manitou are losing sales because of it.

It's not an issue in practice. If you are looking down there then something is badly wrong with your body position :D. Love the feeling of my Mezzer with same damper.

Total non-issue for me. Lack of front arch isn't noticeable at all if there's any sort of mudguard fitted.

A Mezzer Pro at 140mm is the best-feeling fork I've owned. Not yet dialled in my 170mm version to the same happy place admittedly.

don't think i have ever thought about it, got guards on all of mine anyway...

which reminds me, must put my Mezzer on my ebike

the other thing re pricing, i think i have managed to pick mezzers and mattocs up for a little over 300 quid on ebay.. often...

I'd love to own a 29" version (I've owned a 650b Mattoc for probably 10 years) but you just never see them available for a reasonable price. I assume you can still adjust travel when you have a shock pump attached? It was always a great way to quickly turn my hardtail from rowdy trail to more xc without having to open them up.

I had a 26" version of the Mattoc Pro on my old bike and still lust after it ...

I've never quite got on with the RS Pike Ultimate on the newer 29er, although recently adding TruTune has improved the small bump compliance ... overall I still miss the Mattoc but cannot bring myself to pay £1000+ for a new fork, being a weekend warrior I cannot justify it (its not the fork holding me back).

Have the Mattoc on a hardtail and the Mezzer on my FS, great forks. IRT and the dampers are easy to setup.

Manitou, it's time to use the correct knob colors!

I'm running one of these on my FlareMax and it's great, just a really nice trail fork. I kind of like the vaguely retro vibe and confess to never having thought too hard about the arch aesthetics. Concur that the factory set-up suggestions are right on the money for me.

It'd be nice if the bendy mudguard were a bit bigger, but otherwise hard to fault. Full disclosure: I paid nothing like the RRP for mine and I'd struggle to justify blowing that much on a fork, but it is very good.

VisionVelo do some great longer and stronger mudguards for Manitou forks

I got lucky with my Mezzer Pros - one set were on a secondhand bike I bought, other set from same seller for a too-good-not-to price.

Mudguards on reverse arch not an issue with a bit of cunning modification to create more holes for the cable ties - that's a long Mudhugger on there:
