Has anyone done the trans pennine from Manchester to leeds? And Can it be done on a road bike and road tyres?
I've got a single speed mb but can only get 14 mph without my legs looking like something out of a cartoon so would prefer the road bike if do able.
Cheers

I have not done the section from Manchester to Hadfield but I have cycled the rest. Most of it is doable on a road bike but there are sections from woodhead to Worsborough where you may struggle.

Cheers, I'm not worried if I have to get off and walk it through a few sections just thinking that it would be quicker than taking my singlespeed.

Unless it's alway's on and off side's etc or up and over obstacles?

I have ridden mcr to Hadfield (well, we detoured to Glossop) we did it on MTB's but it wasn't massively taxing from memory. You'd probably be ok on road bike if you didn't mind a couple of pushes in places.

Sounds good, think I'll take a chance with the roadbike, singlespeed can go back in the shed for another 12 months ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh I thought you meant on the train. Lots of great pubs on the way.

done it on CX stylee drop bar hybrid aka gravel racer with smooth 32mm tyres no problem

if you are ok on loose gravel and some puddles will be fine - sort of stuff the old timers from the rough stuff fellowship would ride to get to the start of a ride

edit and would be happy to do it on thinner tyres just means a bit more care into sketchy bends

Cheers antigee, just what I was thinking.

I'm on a ribble winter bike but after getting the singlespeed out and giving it a test on my commute in today I would rather do it on the Ribble.

I know it's a road bike but Im sure it can still take a bit of gravel, cobbles ok. As you say the old boy's would probably just laugh at my question ๐Ÿ™‚
