As here: https://singletrackworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/2020-gt-malverns-classic-cancelled-postponed-until-2021/

Really sorry to hear that. We were just talking this week about how it was going to be the first event of the season and how we were all looking forward to getting the tents out... but no. Bum...

What WILL be the first event of 2020 then? (after March's Hit The North, obviously...) Next year's Strathpuffer perhaps?

Can you postpone an annual event for a year, surely its just cancelled and next years event is next years event? Us it just a way of keeping the ticket money and entry fees ?

Seems to be a doomed event, it was postponed last year due to rain.

Was it not cancelled the Thursday before the event kicked off on the Friday though? A freak seriously wet week before had everything properly flooded out? Last year's cancellation was genuine bad timing and bad luck, this year is slightly different as the pandemic has been on the go for a few months and we knew it would take time to recover from.

It isn't great news in any way, hopefully it will be back next year and be on.

a local outbreak of CV19 has put the scuppers on this event, a farm has had 70+ seasonal workers test positive only a couple of miles away from the Eastnor site.

A real shame, as this was gearing up for the first event to re-start the season but it's understandable under the circumstance.

I am very surprised they were pushing ahead. I don't think if I had tickets I would've been comfortable attending.

It felt a little like they were putting money before people's health.

That said I can see why they are desperate to get the event on given last year's cancellation.

Not surprising, they do seem to be cursed.

I would have thought you could run an open air event with a bit of social distancing. Camping facilites - toilets / showers / food ques would be an issue. Also the handover area. But riding round - that wont be too risky would it. No more so than going back to the shops.

You could do a race where its just the competitors and do it all via Strava I suppose, but its not the same thing.

The Malvern is on heavy clay soil so it doesn't take much to make the course unrideable
