in summary:

Magura Thors - Flight control should equalize chambers and also change travel down to 100mm and then up to 140 using adial at the top of the leg. This no longer works for some stupid reason so i cannot change travel or change fork pressure. The Dial turns using a remote, when this was operated (metal on nylon) the top cap has rounded the nylon top of the cartridge!
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

what can i do?

rr,sorry, but I get the red mist when Magura forks are mentioned.

From my reply to a post about Magura Wotan's:

Gary_C - Member
DO NOT BUY A WOTAN FORK!!!!!

I bought a set in June '06,Albert select packed up twice,2 sets of lowers suffered cracks in the post mounts, other niggly problems.....all added up to me rejecting the forks the last time Magura sent them back to my LBS...minus the Maxle that they went away with.So how was I supposed to fit the wheel & "Go Ride?"
I will never spend my hard earned cash on any product made by that company ever again!

I know that my forks were Wotan's, but the flight control went 'tits up'just like yours. In the above post it was one of the 'other niggly problems'i referred to.

They fitted new internals.
The catalogue of problems I had with the Wotan's all happened within the warranty period.I bought them in June 2006 when they had just gone on sale,so I had an early production set.
Even so,I shouldn't have had to send them back about 6 times over a 14 month period!
The problem with the AlbertSelect damper assembly was same as the Flight Control,i.e.Was very difficult/couldn't turn the top cap. Also thought that the design of the remote levers could have been better.

Sorry, can't help you with that one.Take it yours are out of warranty?
If so,how about contacting the guy at Magura U.K.,Tony,I think he's called,he may say that there's a recognised problem with them,(or maybe not!),but its worth asking imho.

magura forks are exellent, however this is common & has happened to me .

the cure is firstly.unscrew the valve cap on the flight remote & apply a light oil/grease around the o-ring.there is stiction on the seal so this will help with the no return of the dial on the fork.

the grit in then remote.now this will almost certainly be a metal lever as you should not get this problem from the more fragile plastic remote.

the cure is to clean out the outers & fit a new inner cable, the remote lever (metal version only) has a smaller hole where the cable end fits so a little filing & patiants is needed.

take the cable out of its stops on the dial on the fork ,remove the grub screw on the remote that is holdign the cable (grub screw is on metal lever only) pull the inner cable out & spray a teflon or even wd-40 through the outer cable to clean out all the crap.

now fit new inner cable back in,first spray a small amount of teflon (NOT WD-40 FOR THIS BIT) on thwe dial on the leg & work by hand back 7 forth untill the dial is free & returning the full way back.

when fitting the cable take out the tension on the cable with your fingers & tighten down the grub screws on the fork dial .

i got a little tired of the metal levers,as good as they look i swapped the flight remote for one off an old set of manitou blacks and this works a treat.

i also bought a new albert select lever .i ditched the metal for a new plastic version which works lovely but is more fragile in crashes & at £30.00 a time is not good.

I have to say, i've used Wotans, Durin 120's & Thors.

All have been from when the forks were just released & sure they have sufferred niggling little problems but they have all been sorted now. I wouldnt change to another fork brand now (unless i want 7" travel & up).

They work superbly, the Albert Select has a massive adjustment range, wickedly plush & light.

If they have one downfall, its the super cheap plastic handlebar lever. Everytime you push it, it rotates where the two parts bolt together - rubbish. Magura, if you are reading this. Get it sorted, its cheap, plastic, not clever & not what i expect on £500 forks!

Woop i think i may have fixed it. The dial keeps popping off the top of the leg. Its held on by an O ring - any ideas to help stop it coming off?

would you beleive it, I have exactly the same problem with a pair of Thors.

Any advice on what the fix is greatly appreciated. This happened after the first ride with them in my possession. I have noted scratches around the flight control top cap... Obviously this has been a problem for the previous owner.

Is there a fix for this (other than buying an old pair of Bombers)?
