how bright are they compared to say a lumi 12watt halogen spot or 20watt flood?
would they pair up well as a helmet light with a set of 20/12watt lumi halogens?

At a VERY rough estimate, IME they're comparable - eg similar outputs.

Here's my beam shots of the Spokeshirts light (which I think is the same as the Magic Shine one)......compared to a Lumi can converted to LEDs, The Lumi LED conversion is a fair bit brighter than the 12W Spot Lumi halogen.

And yes, it would be a good addition to the 20/12w Lumi combo although it'll make the halogens look very orange.
