[#683243]

so this afternoon the spring inside the top pivot bolt assembly (i.e. where the mech bolts onto the frame) of my XTR M950 rear mech snapped. I bought the mech about 4 years ago, haven't used it that much and it's in perfect condition otherwise. Worryingly, I don't seem to be able to find a replacement spring on-line. I *really* like the mech, it's on my race bike and I don't want to have to shell out goodness knows how much for a new one.

my questions are:

1. Am I merely ignorant and can I actually get hold of a new spring from somewhere? If so, where?

2. will any Shimano top pivot spring fit inside the M950 pivot bolt? If so I will just buy an Alivio mech or similar and cannibalise it for spares.

3. Failing all this, does anybody have a Retired or Broken XTR M950 rear mech which they would be willing to sell me so that I can extract the relevant spring?

Thank you in advance for your help...

Thank you Merlinman and Paul - have mailed Merlinman already. If things don't work out then I will get in touch with you, Paul. I really appreciate you both offering to help.

It's well possible that the spring from any Shimano mech would work.

I'd ask for a discarded one from your lbs.

Either that or work out the part number from the exploded diagrams on the Shimano site and then goto a Shimano service centre and get them to order the part. Bit like cars though, replacement parts are way more expensive than the original part.
