Read a thread from about a year ago on here will lot of people mentioning poor reliability, needing regular bleeding and generally them being a bit of a pita. Was wondering if that's still the case, or if Shimano have sorted out those issues with the current supply. I need a set of brakes fairly urgently, and as these are only a few quid more than what Hope want for servicing my M4s (£55 per end!) I'm tempted to ditch the Hopes.

Not sure. Just sent back a pair of 6 month old m7000 levers as both had dodgy bite points and then one started leaking too.
Two sets here normal single pot and the twin pots no issues to report!
also ran a set of 8000 for about a year once again no issues I just re bleed them every 3/4 months and did pads when needed etc. Great brakes in my experience.
Twin pot was a bit of a mate to revered but got there with a bit of patience and an extra 10 mins or so each end from normal time 😁👍
I’d get the hopes serviced and keep them. £55 an end sounds excessive though - what are they doing for that?
Had XT M8000's for a couple of years and have been very happy, done two bleeds in that time. Great reliable brake.
Mine have been good. They have small reservoirs so it’s important to keep topping up fluid every now and again using the little bucket, to adjust for pad wear
That's an interesting take on wandering bite. May be right, but if so that's pretty crap IMO. The whole purpose of the reservoir is to take up the volume caused by pad wear. If it's too small to function, that's a major brake design defect.
I don't know how mechanically minded you are but a couple of seal kits, some brake fluid and IPA. Half a day of tinkering and they'll be as good as new. It's one of the great things about Hope brakes.
Failing that, if the Hopes are "knackered", I'll happily take them off your hands.

Vincienup; the reservoir is sealed (to stop spillage when you crash or lay the bike down etc...) so it can’t compensate for wear. Not like the system on your car 🙂
XT 8000 on my Bronson, had it for 17 months now, still on original pads too, haven't missed a beat tbh.
Thanks all. The £55/end is for full overhaul,so all seals, pistons etc. Add on postage to and from Hope and it adds up. The current problem is sticky piston which wwon' go away despite lots of working in and out. I've replaced the pistons on one already, and suspect that seals need doing as well. It sounds like the newer Shimanos aren't quite the fit-and-forget which they used to be so I might persevere with the hopes one more time...
I fitted two sets of the M8000s when they were pretty new. One set has been "fit and forget". The other had that wandering bit point on the front brake. I re-bled it according to the Shimano instructions (I'd changed hoses originally) and it has been fine for the past 18 months.
