Murr and I started out on an innocuous night ride, before we left town we were caught in a full on blizzard.
There's a near full moon tonight, by the time we reached the shelter of the Cleish Hill, the wind was gone and the road snow covered. We switched off our lights and climbed under nothing more than moonlight.
Wow, is all I can say. Gone was the focus on what our light beam illuminated. We became much more aware of the wider land and skyscape.
Try it sometime.
Last time we had decent snow on the Malvern's we did that. Managed to do most all of route across the top without lights.
Was an awesome night.
Same last night in Glencoe. Lovely. Also Baltic.
I rode for a while tonight without the light
Clear sky and incredibly bright moonlight here tonight, just west of Prague. No snow, but it felt almost as bright as day. I love moonlight.
I wasn't riding though, just putting the bin out. So I suppose your story is a bit more romantic.
Yup,cracking night out after that snow blew through.
Too dark in the woods for no lights ,but it was lovely and bright for the rest of the ride.
Try it sometime
Always do when it's bright. Definitely the best way to night ride.
Last time I did that I really confused myself; I could turn my head without turning the light from my headtorch!
Oh wait, the headtorch is off, that's the moon...
I've got this mate who drove across a snowy Rannoch Moor in the small hours just by the light of a full moon. Sounded lovely.
Sounds ace - the moon looked so bright tonight. But, given that tonight with both my bar and head light on I still managed to nearly rip my head off riding straight into a branch which I failed to see I might give it a miss... ๐ณ
RM.
Yeah I love night riding sans lights too. do it all the time on my own locally, doesn't even need to be a full moon as I know the local trails so well.
larger group rides I'll generally leave mine off most of the night too.
