Is this a recipe for trouble? As in some lube will eventually ingress to the post and cause slippage? Lever is a bit sticky and could do with loosening up?

I usually just put some grease on the cam when it gets stiff.

Do it. Nice thick grease so it stays where it's put. The improved action of the QR will make the clamp work loads better.

Suppose he needs to remove his seatpost to get it in a car smartarse? Not everyone needs or wants a dropper!

I just use my everlasting tube of Finish Line white grease. If the post looks dry / filthy, I wipe a wee bit round the base of the post and push it back in. Worth doing if you don't move it often anyway - not many worse jobsthan trying to loosen a fused in seatpost...

Oh, and it never slips - so don't worry about getting grease on the post.

+1

This is 2014. You'll be saying you don't have a 650b bike next...

Proper thick grease, just a wee bit.

27.2 dropper posts, other than the Thomson one, seem to be pish.

I love 2014. The year of the 1 1/8 & 68mm. Sound.

No danger of it causing the post to drop, maybe if you grease the post but that's a whole different thing.

cfinnimore, gravity dropper! When I first got mine, I was fitting it to a horse. Then they invented the bike, so I fitted it to that. It's getting a bit wobbly now though, might need to give it its second service ever at some point.

*Does what Northwind says 'cause he knows things and likes the same stuff as I do*

I like that. It's on the list.

This is like when I thought Niner invented 29".

Edit: Lots of options, very expensive. I'll wait for that... Thomson elite for now!

Only 4 inches of drop mind. But over the years I have learned to do a lot with my 4 inches.

Im sorry, but I just dont trust droppers to reliably carry my 17st (with kit) reliably. Plus the cost seems rather excessive. I don't doubt that they are useful, but im not convinced that the reliability is 100% there.
Did i mention that I want them to reliable?

Just take the QR off, clean it up & then put a smidge of grease on the cam/bush.

Or buy a dropper for your folding bike..... ๐Ÿ™‚

I've always used a very light film of grease on my seatpost anyway, so it doesn't seize.
Never had a problem with slippage.
