Loose inner axle on Hunt front hub

The inner axle on my Hope front hub is loose, making it a bit of a faff fitting the front wheel.

I can’t work out how it should be held in place and how to refit … I’m trying to avoid removing the bearings if I can help it.

Can you line it up and press the bearings a little?

I think it should be a relatively tight fit on the bearing inner section, but not 100% sure.

Mine was like that. It was sort of held in place with friction and grease but would often move. I just centred it with my finger before fitting and it would usually stay there long enough to get the axle in.
