Ok so its a bit of a delicate area (sometimes quite literially).

Doing the commute to work each morning is causing a bit of chaffing and I'm looking for something to... well you know, Ease the discomfort.

So. Whats good & worth trying & what's quite frankly pants.

Ideas please.

btw i already use a comfy saddle & padded shorts so its not that which is the problem.

Cheers

Take your pick!!

Where abouts are you getting chafing? If it's down the sides of the top of your legs, possibly look at getting a different set of shorts. Different shorts work for different people as all the pads are differently shaped.

Sudocrem when i've had raw sores in the past. Prevention better than cure though and i now use chamois Butt'r on my road bike and longer mtb rides, 100 miler yesterday with no chaffage so is doing the job. Oh and sudocrem can work as prevention but if on a longer ride it tends to come through to the outside of your shorts giving you a good old white patch on yer arse - not good lol!

sudocrem is fine for me - tend not to do all-dayers though and I suppose it might rub off quicker than posho stuff

Assos works for me. I'm sure Sudocrem would be fine on a budget.

I quite like the idea of Chapeau in a tube - pretty much guarantees against double-dipping 🙂

used to use sudacreme, and its OK, but proper chamois cream is definately the way to go.

Prevention is better than cure. Problem I've found is what is the best way to sort out the healing process if/when you do get chaffed.
Try this,as passed down to me by a very old and very rugged cyclist.
Warning this is not for the faint hearted, but it does the trick.
After (or instead of if on tour etc.) bathing ensure affected area is as dry as possible and then douse some folded toilet paper with surgical spirit and give yourself a good wipe down. It'll sting/burn like a b#st#rd (if its really bad chaffing you could even gointo shock) - apply a liberal amount of talc, either babypowder or medicated works best, this will also cool down the affected area.
Repeat morning and night until it clears, which will be quicker than other methods. The surgical spirit will also toughen the skin which has the added effect of helping prevent chaffing.
Another alternative is to use wich hazel. You can get it as a gel. Again it smarts a bit,not as much as surgical spirit, but it'll do the job.

sudocrem is not even comparable to proper chamois cream. too thick and doesnt slide.

Not quite sure about the shape of the bottle - suppose it hints at the general area.

Assos cream for me. However recently been suffering myself recently and reckoned the problem could have been the shorts. Got a pair of bib shorts fr the first time and problem sorted. The pad on the normal shorts just moved around and caused the chafing. The bibs hold the pad in place and rubbing stopped. Don't reckon you need to spend silly money on bibs to get a good pair. Won't go back to normal shorts and older pairs thrown out.

I like the Ozone chamois cream FWIW.

I also got some Nature's Kiss anti-chafing cream, which is nice.

Cheers all

The surgical spirit method sounds like a form of self administered S&M to me so will be avoiding that one. 😯

Got me some natures kiss on order so will see if that works this weekend.

Will also go for some bibs next time i need new shorts, shame as I've just spent £35 on some new ones 🙄

Cheers all for the advice and not getting the thread closed down by the mod's, which i feared might happen if it went in the wrong direction. 😉
