Decided that I'm going to invest in some new bars and possibly a new stem - advice / mockery required from the forum.

Current set up on the Orange ST4 is the inherited 600mm flat carbon XC Bonty bars + 100mm Bonty 2 bolt stem the bike came with, as an ex demonstrator. Served me well but can'y help it's not the strongest setup (me 14st!) and I'm doing some heavier riding eg CYB/FOD than when first bought.

Also borrowed a mates hardtail with much wider bars and liked the feel of the steering.

So thinking about an EAston Haven bar (711mm) + 70mm stem. Does this seem like a sensible choice or too far the other way from the current XC setup?

Haven's a good bar... Decent size and weight, and very strong. Carbon or alu? Aluminium one does seem a little expensive.

Sounds sensible to me, but obv will take a little bit of time to get used to.

maybe change one at a time so you can judge how it feels before introducing the other item?

Was thinking of using some Birthday bonus points for carbon havens.

Wwaswas - good idea but I'm a bit concerned the wide bars will put too much twisting onto the 2 bolt face of the lightweight stem...suppose I could buy swap just stem first - but prefer to get wider bars.

Also after looking - why don't Hope or Thompson do bars..? Be nice for consistency to not have to introduce another component manufacturer.
