I used to have allen key bolt-up skewers, as I figured they gave the best compromise between security and utility (ie chances of me having an allen key on me - pretty high; chances of me not losing a proprietary locking widget - pretty low).
They were sufficient for me not to worry about leaving my bike locked outside a shop, particularly the rear once you factor in the faff of the chain, mech etc. But would I leave a bike with nice wheels outside with just the skewers securing the wheels to the frame? Not really - it just takes one scrote to see the wheels, go and find an allen key and come back to really *&^% up my day...
