The wife and I are staying on the West shore of Loch Lomond for a week. Are there any recommended rides not far from Luss?
Ideally looking for a shortish out and back/up and down I can do, likely to be early/late in the day.
Not Ben Lomond though, ridden it before and we will be hiking it while we're there.
up and down the westie, including Conic, or a explore in Glen Fruin for a more gentle time?
Follow the west highland way route up the right bank.
Thank me later 😀
hiking it while we’re there.
go up the cobbler instead
Fair bit of driving from Luss to the east bank/WHW isn't there?
Having said that I don't really know any short out and backs for an MTB from Luss, could you drive to Arrochar? Strava seems to suggest some trails in the trees on the Ardgartan peninsula...
Can drive but would prefer to keep it to the West side.
I've hiked the Cobbler a few times, never appealed to me as a ride but maybe I'm wrong?
There are ferries across LL which will take a bike.
if you drive a wee while up to Tarbet Station there are some lovely paths that link into the Glen Loin route, which is a bit of a classic - NB, do the Glen Loin loop clockwise..
I remember many years ago doing some riding up behind Luss, up Glen Luss and Glen Mollachan to Glen Douglas. Some Ok estate type tracks and tussocky bog but I don't remember it being awful.
^^^ I also remember doing the Adrgarten loop with you on cx bikes and you falling off.. 🙂

True. Best resolution is to drive up the west ( fast road) to Benglass Farm and do the Northern LL section to inversnaid as a there and back.
Problem solved
Thank me profusely later 😀
Ben Dubh is right behind Luss , it’s basically a big grass hill though and can get pretty boggy although the views across the loch are brilliant. I’ve never ridden it although I have walked it and I’m sure if it was dry it would be a fun blast down , mctrail rider has a video on it I think.
I would second what iainc said and recommend glen loin clockwise as a lovely ride and also the ardgarten peninsula loop , lovely views all round and whilst mostly fire road each loop has its fun Singletrack sections. Glen Loin is probably about a 2 hour loop , ardgarten maybe a bit longer .
There are also some enduro style trails at ardgarten if that’s your thing , they are on trailforks and you could easily spend a couple of hours riding them .

Yup, I believe they're very nice (steeper, technical type trails) if you're in the area. Not made it there myself but know one of the builders. Alternatively you can do the loop of the peninsula
Glen Loin is a "classic" loop, very scenic but almost entirely fireroads with just the last mile or so on trails. Nice place to bimble around though
Ok thanks.
Glen Loin sounds ok for what I'm after. Did see that McTrail Rider video, didn't look a great descent but def ticks the logistics box. Will try and sniff out the Ardgartan stuff.
Went for Glen Loin. It was as described, great loop to spend a few hours in old forest and stunning scenery with a fun singletrack finish.
I was definitely over biked but I only have one, and did manage to pick out a beautiful sliver of secret singletrack between fireroad a switch back just out of Succoth
Trails in Ardgarten are really good
Some nice rooty techy steep trails
Also some trails on the Glen fruit hill that are proper steep, you end up down the hill to the Arrochar road so a bit of a pedal back up
I’ve seen some trails in Helensburgh area on Trailforks but not rode them
Further back towards Glasgow is Kilpatrick hills in Clydebank
John Muir way to helensburgh? Might be to easy/ not trail-y enough though.
