Hi
I am doing a lightweight cycle tour soon. A question I have is what do people do to wash bib shorts at the end of the day? Do you take any chemicals to help keep them clean or just rinse and dry?
Any tips gratefully received.
Take them in the shower with you and use shower gel/shampoo. Hand driers come in useful.
Shower gel and trample them in the shower or wash them in the sink. Wring them inside a towel to get them dry by morning.

As above, washed mine in the shower.
Good tip for getting them dry faster is after washing roll them up in a dry towel and stand on them for a while. Gets much of the moisture out.
You can buy Halo in 1-wash sachets, works well at low (shower/hand wash) temps.
Yep..that's what I do.Shower gel and trample them in the shower or wash them in the sink. Wring them inside a towel to get them dry by morning.
As above, shower with them on. Wring out. Wring out again inside towel, hang to dry.
For overnights though, I don't bother. Take a small tube of chamois cream too.
Personal hygiene just as important - chamois cream with antiseptic properties to keep the bugs at bag / minimise rubbing.
depends on how long your out for....
i did 6 months with 2 pairs of shorts - different pads to minimize rubbing.
would wash em in the shower and dry them bunjied to the top of my rack ready for the next day.
for a couple of nights out bivying i just be sure to take em off every night - clean my nether regions and put on my sleeping base layers - then put the shorts back on to dry em out - dont be tempted to sleep in em without the base layers - thats how you get fungle crotch rot ๐
I wash mine in the shower, whilst showering. If you get in the shower quickly after riding (instead of pissing around with your bike) you have more time for them to dry. I too also roll them up in a towel to squeeze the water out, then hang them on a radiator in hotel.
I have been known not to wash them, depends on how long/strenuous dry/wet the ride is.

+1. If you stand on the towel then hang the shorts up, they'll be dry by the morning.
then hang them on a radiator in hotel
๐ Your kind of cycle touring is much posher than mine!
Best way to wring them out is wrap them in the towel, put a foot on one end and use both hands to twist the other end. They'll come out nearly dry. Don't try to wring the bibs by themselves, you can rip the stitching if you overdo it...
People taking a towel big enough to wring out bibs in is shock enough! Do they take a dressing gown too? Does lightweight touring require a trailer these days?Your kind of cycle touring is much posher than mine!
A micro-fibre towel doesn't take up a huge amount of space, about the same as a long sleeved thermal top.
Towel wrap and wring is a classic drying method for most things! Remarkably effective
When I go out I usually rough camp so no shower or radiator.
I take mine off asap and hang them out to air. Hygiene is key, a good clean etc.
Wear them in the morning. If I'm out for a week I take 2 or maybe 3 pairs if the weather forecast is bad.
Sunny side up drying on the bike is good as the sun (UV) is a terrific bug killer.
Of course, this does require sun.
Do they take a dressing gown too?
Pipe and slippers too. It's lightweight as I left the smoking jacket behind.
