Show me your lightweight BUTcheap mtbs.
Here's mine. cost me about £500 and weighs 25lb

Got a soft spot for those old dales can be built up very light and the shocks are surprisingly good and easy to service so long as you don't sausage fingers.

Cooratec Team Bow Rigid SS coming together in the garage aiming for a skinny 22lb aiming for sub £300. Just need saddle, stem, bars and cranks. So far frame £75 powder coating £40 I had the wheels, Avid brakes £35, BB - £20, lightweight tyres and tubes £30, Chain £18. Will post pic in the morning.
