Sat on Cotherstone Moor, eating a cheese butty, after riding up here on my bike.

This morning I found out about an acquaintance who was killed in his late thirties in a traffic accident in Thailand. Not someone who I was close to, but we’d chatted at length on a few occasions in the past and we’d be friendly again if our paths crossed.

Makes me appreciate what I’ve got, whilst I’ve got it.

A picture would be nice. Not of the butty.

...of the butty. And there better not be sweet chili sauce on it; I'm not ready for that filth.

Well I think removing the person dying would make it a little better.

Took my bike out for the first time in a very long time last weekend and riding up onto the downs overlooking Kingston and Lewes it struck me that I've been riding up here for 40 years and it feels as good today as it did then. And I didn't even have a slice of bread let alone a cheese sandwich

Funny how we have sometimes to be reminded of the fragility of everything to appreciate the small things that make being alive just so wonderful

Even better if it's Cotherstone cheese in the butty.

Not been up there for ages. Must put on the go sooner list. Thanks for reminding us.

A bit weak that MOAA. Looks like a nice spot for a cuppa though.

Yes it was, especially in that neck of the woods where there’s hardly anyone about.

I’ve been re-considering the title I gave this thread. I was more thinking about appreciating life after finding out about my acquaintance.

I, and a few others on here, lost a good friend (and brilliant mountain biker) to cancer a few weeks ago.

His death hasn’t made me enjoy rides more exactly, but it has made me savour and appreciate them.

He was still checking out what people were doing (by Strava) right up until near the end and was always keen to hear about our biking, walking etc trips even if he could no longer do them himself.

To be honest I’m not entirely sure what point I’m trying to make with this post but just felt it needed saying.  So if you’re out and about in the hills or wherever today……enjoy it.
