I'm watching discovery plus through prime as well. If there's no commentary at all then I'll probably cancel the subscription. Surely this is a teething problem?

Watching it through Sky. Free Discovery + subscription

Top right says Eurosport GCN

I think the commentary from Ric and Cedric is quite good

top right says Eurosport gcn on mine too. Annoying (despite me saying above that it was quite refreshing, didn't know it was an issue)

Right then. Better fire up the fafftech and get dicking about with casting gcn to a Tele. Can't believe I am paying money for this steaming pile of tech****tery.

Quite liking Gracia on the mic, appreciate not everyone is but I prefer his overblown enthusiasm to the other guy who I find a little dull. Track looking pretty fast for the finals.

Agreed, seems a bit more settled this week. A bit of learning (and maybe coaching) I’m sure is helping

I thought the camera work (or at least the live editing) was a lot better this week in the womens final.

The commentary was still pretty poor, Ric seemed a bit more natural this week, but he needs to start using Cedric as the expert rather than being co commentators, bring him into the commentary by asking him specific questions about what we are seeing in the race., I think that was something Warner did quite well, asking questions of his co-commentators for the benefit of the viewer  as he probably knew the answer himself anyway. They also often didn't seem to have the live timing that the viewers had again.

The repetition of phrases is what irritates me.

”The bike is doing all the work”
”He doesn’t pay for his own tyres”

Almost simultaneous ”Woah!”

But sports commentary is a special brand of inane nonsense I guess.

I prefer his overblown enthusiasm

As Warner might say "he is all over it, like a coked up childrens tv presenter getting too handsy with a performer in a lap dancing club"

There no commentary on discovery 0lus via Amazon,it was the same las week.

I raised a support case with discovery and got some load of bull back basically fobbing me off,so 8ve cancelled my sub. I'll renew it direct with discovery next month ,as it seems the commentary works when it's direct via discovery.

Top racing, great results for Austria, 2 races in and 2 new winners in the mens.

Saw the end of the womens, then stuff.... and no laptop. Not seen the mens, but seen the results - all good stuff.

But honestly, I can't be bothered with all this. Will cancel GCN+ I think. Yeah I am a tech luddite, but if shit doesn't work easily then I'm not interested.

I'd love to know what the viewing figures are for the final compared to Red Bull but I bet we never find out.

I've been watching on a discovery plus app built into the Tele. Minor faff to get to what I want but it's not like it takes long and in fact red bull meant I had to get the laptop out and connect to the Tele, so now it's easier.

Enjoyed all the racing again, and will continue to do so.

I'm also convinced Cedric sounds like wim Hoff when he's having a shout.

Discovery plus sub and an ap on my TV. Think it's great to be honest although it is 7 quid a month. Camera work and commentary I like.

Great racing. The woman's is much more competitive this year and that makes it more exciting. Great to see Holl win. It was a great run. Her style seems quite on the edge at times, good to watch.

Men's was ace again. I don't think it's the most exciting course but it was close again. Kolb was a worthy winner.

Felt for Minaar and Hart a bit. Unusual to have a front blow out like Hart and rare to see Minaar just hit a tree.

But honestly, I can’t be bothered with all this.

I watched on phone, Tv and laptop at different points yesterday. All worked absolutely fine. Are you sure the issue is at their end?

I think it is a bit of both. Like @Yak I like things to be designed to just work, and cannot bear it when I am having to make an effort to use something I paid for. If I design something at work the first thing I think about is "This needs to work for every user" I have had zero help from the GCN+ tech team with the login issues I have encountered, not even a response. After a few hours of Googling I found a way to get some of it sorted. But yesterday I had to sit and watch a silent womens race. I then gave up and decided to just watch the highlights package for the mens on YouTube and on entering the home screen there was "Andreas Kolb's Winning Run" FFS I had avoided it all day on the socials. I perservered anyway and started to watch the highlights and they started with showing Kolbs winning run, and told you it was the winningest run WTF! They then went on to tell you Vali had won the womens. I know Redbull wasn't perfect but at least they knew not to give the game away.

Great racing in the men’s. Agree that Minnaar was unlucky to hit that tree, lost a good few seconds there and might have made top ten otherwise, the bottom part of the track is the sort of place he could have made up time, few can put the hammer down on those high speed sections like he does. God knows what happened with Harts tyre, saw talk on PB it was a prototype?

Daprela was on a stormer at the top, love his ragged style, he just didn’t have the smoothness through the woods like Kolb, Bruni and a few others. He’s definitely got the raw speed, it just seems a bit random as to whether he can make it stick through the more techy bits.

Goldstone looks amazingly good on the bike though, just so fast and flowing. He would have taken the win I think by a second or so if it wasn’t for the slip up on the final corner, he lost a lot of momentum there, he had the best splits up until that point.

Shame Jordan wasn’t really up there after the previous race but there you go. And hats off to Kolb, atmosphere in the finish area looked amazing when I watched Kerrs video of the race, great for him and Vali to win there like that.

As it looks like Pierron is pretty much out for the rest of the season, Bruni is going to be hard to beat for the overall win. Once Goldstone gets over the appendicitis (or whatever it was he had) properly, he will even more right up there.

Interesting men's field this year.

The women's field seems right open. It does look like Rachel Atherton is a bit short of fitness, so sprinty tracks like Leogang are probably nit what she's best suited. What a run from Valle Holl though. Wow!

I'm not loving the points system so far with the qualis and semis having a huge impact, it seems two second places can be worth a lot more than a 1st and 3rd in the finals, could you possibly win almost every final and still lose the overall if you don't do that great in quali and semis. For example could Rachel win all the other races and still lose the overall, seems messed up if that's the case.

On GCN+, it starts with no commentary but you have to press up, then switch from “Ambient” to “English” - or whatever your preferred language is. Bit annoying but works fine once selected.

This is GCN+ on appleTV.

Points for qualies are still relatively minor to main event? So not sure I agree. The semi format is quite interesting for non protected etc

I quite like the semi-final/final format.

What I don't like is there are only 10 protected spots for the men and 4 for the women, especially since it carries over from the previous season.

I get why they have it but imo protected riders shouldn't be a thing until you get to the pointy end of the season.  Maybe something like, nobody is protected until we are down to 10 men and 4 women who still have a mathematical chance of winning the overall.

GCN stutters constantly on my TV with Firestick. It's frustrating. OK on phone but I'd rather watch it on the telly.

Starting to really like Cedric in commentary. Made me laugh a few times with his enthusiasm.

I know Redbull wasn’t perfect but at least they knew not to give the game away.

How short people's memories seem to be. People used to complain about exactly the same thing when you went to Red Bull's site after the race. They'd have the winning runs of women's and men's elites top of the page Names in the titles and all. Although to be fair to Red Bull, folks complained about their coverage when they took over from Freecaster, and I don't think anyone wants to go back to that.

I found that having the commentary depended on which device I streamed from. From the phone, nothing, from my laptop, all was happy.

Agree, but they fixed it. They changed the way they introduced the highlights or catch up package and stopped giving the game away. RedBull cocked it up and fixed it so GCN+/UCI didn't have to. What is the point of repeating the mistakes others made?

The Youtube highlights are appalling - a roundup should never start with the winner I had been out all day and thought I'd catch up. Admittedly the women's was done correctly in that they went 3, 2, 1 but the men's was straight in with the Kolb.

Still can't really complain as I'm not paying for it, eh.

Grr

Given the fact that It's a rider who's been knocking on the door of a win for a couple of seasons now, and doing it for the first time at his home event, his and the crowd's reaction, you can forgive them for hyping up this particular story over the reveal of the normal 3-2-1 results

Agree, but they fixed it.

I'm not sure they did; they were certainly still doing it the last year of their broadcasts, and it's pretty much a staple of most sports broadcasting as far as I can tell in the day and age of social media. I agree that trying to watch the event 'blind' after broadcast is hard, but it's almost always been like that.

Well, yeah, it's a bit to do with me.

So set up is a samsung tv. I have paid for GCN+ but couldn't find an app for GCN+ on the tv interface. The in-built web browser is slow and  faffy as there isn't a keyboard. So I get it up on a laptop then cast to the tv.  So I am at risk of casting and wifi problems. I have an oldish xbox too plugged into the tv, and that's how I used to watch redbull. But again I couldn't find GCN+ as an xbox app. Is it there?

So out of that combo of 3 tech items, is there a better way of watching GCN+ than casting from a laptop?

Lordy. You know, if it means that much to you, watch it live. Expecting to come blind to a re-run in these days of social media and instant gratification is a non starter.

@yak - get a Firestick, GCN runs fine on mine.

(or get a vga/hdmi cable to plug straight into TV from your laptop)

I've got a Chromecast with Google TV.  That means I don't have to faf about with the laptop (interestingly, the one place I can't get GCN+ to work properly is on my browser so maybe it doesn't like Linux based systems).

Got a great drinking game for you.

Take a drink every time CG/Rick repeats exactly what Rick/CG just said.

Good luck!
