Left handed 10 speed shifter

Due to injuries my right hand thumb is no longer able to charge gear without causing pain
So I could go electric, or swap the lever toy left hand.but that would be upside down.
Am I imagining it or was there the option for left hand shifts on a 1x set up ?

Back in the day you could buy internals for SRAM X9 shifters to change the pull ratio and number of gears (change of ratchet plate). Using a similar idea I wonder if it's possible to swap the the ratchet plate from a RH to LH shifter.

Other option would be electric shifting, perhaps by the universal kit ( https://archercomponents.com/).

I've just set up a bike with 1x10 using an 11 speed Gripshift (with one dead position), which could be mounted on the left

The cable pull is similar enough between 'X-actuation' and 'dynasis' that a deore mech is cooperating with it so far...

Get a right handed thumb shifter (microshift or sunrace maybe) and mount it upside down and backwards (says my husband).

Yup... I did this for the opposite reason back in the day... couldn't work a left hand shifter due to mashing up my arm/hand so had a thumb shifter upside down on the right to work the front derailleur [ย remember them? ] ... it worked well.

Came here to say gripshift. You can get 12 speed now and can be mounted left or right.

Not quite the same but I have issues with the left thumb so use a LH dropper lever on the RH side and run it upside down.ย  Works ok. In your position I'd at least try a shifter upside down as the cheap and easy option.

As others say, gripshift will work. I run a NX and a GX 11 speed gripshift on 10 speed shimano on two of my bikes, one with aย  10 speed xt mech and one with a 11 speed xt mech on the 10 speed cassette. works pretty well.

it does mean your shifting will be backward, i.e. rotate away from you to shift into larger sprockets, but I'd say that it's a better way of doing it. I used to run gripshift 9 speed with aย  rapid rise mech and being able to shift into an 'easier' gear whilst moving your hand toward the brake lever makes for quick changes when approaching sudden inclines.

Ok
Thanks for the replies.
Purchased a sram nx 11 speed gripshift . Going to try it right handed , as in normal position first and see howt UCL and joints cope. Trying it off the bike I think it will be ok as the diameter is still small and I can hold grips ok.

Will I need a stubby half grip through?
Think I do otherwise the brake lever will be miles away . Got odi lock ons which are abit tired so might try cutting one in half and fitting the spacer thing .
