I'll be servicing a set of Manitou Circus forks soon. The lower leg bolts are left hand thread. Why?

I can't figure out any reason why they would need to be LH thread.

Here's an example on one of their service videos:

Because the lowers go on backwards

Because the damper actually threads into the bottom of the lowers. You're not undoing a nut like on Fox/Rockshox, you're undoing the damper from the bottom so it releases from the lowers. The damper threads the correct way but you are unscrewing from the opposite side

they aren't... you wind the damper and airspring rods out of the lowers/lower nuts, you don't undo the nuts

I’d just twizzle it clockwise for a feel of what 4nm is like. Then do it backwards. It’s really not much at all.

As above, just get a feel for 4nm then guess. And a good tip is to use a short Allen key or hold a longer one nearer the tip so you can't put as much torque into it

Like pedals and bottom brackets. It's to protect against mechanical procession
