After some full length guards for commuting purposes and having seen some of the threads lately with people spending 6hrs fitting guards I don't fancy that 😯
Thinking of the SKS commuter which seem easy to fit but are there better (easier) out there?
The first set up of SKS thermoplastics will take an hour or so but it's only 10 minutes to take off or refit after that. Especially on a CX because the brake bosses are free.
SKS Thermoplastic ones here on my Kinesis Maxlight.
They do take a bit of setting up - I think mine took an hour or two. But I'd rather do that and have silent rattle free guards that look good and will be durable than some of the quick fit ones.
I thought my kinesis was very easy to fit guards to to be honest. It is helpful if you have some spare bolts and nuts and spacers beforehand. I bought a load of stainless ones from my local stockists for a couple of pounds before hand and that made things a lot easier.
If you have a chainstay bridge which has the direct mount on it for a guard use a dome headed bolt as they offer more clearance for your tyre.

Giant Defy Guards. Very good.
People taking 6 hours to fit full length guards should sell their spanners.
Its really not that hard.
Avoid crud race guards unless you cannot fit real guards. Noisy as hell

Agree with trail_rat - Race Guards are just horrible. RaceBlades are far better for clip ons, Thermoplastics for proper guards.

I use raceblades, took me about 20 mins to refit them for this winter. Only issue I've had is that they are very close to the tyres, so collect mud from the road on the plastic bosses where the frame clips fit and start rubbing on the tyres, just have to hoike it out every now and then...

I fitted sks longboards recently and they're fantastic, even better after moving the lower stay bracket and mudflap on the front to sit outside the guard, rather than inside where they create a channel for the water to catch and spray out.

I notice the fittings (stays?) are quite different though so not sure if one version is easier than the other?
As cheers_drive mentions the brake bosses are free so the rear should be simple. But the front caliper uses a hanger attached to the fork brace so I can envisage faffage

The least Faff are the new Bontrager NCS (no cut stay) mudguards. SKS Chromoplastics are excellent, but initial stay fitting is Pfaffage but they can be cut with very good cable cutters.

I can get a set on in 20mins but then I have done it a fair few times.
But yeah. There's not much any better. 🙂
Took me around 40 mins to fit the longboards. That includes fitting p-clips to the fork, removing the cable hanger from the forks, giving the forks a wipe with an oily rag, removing wheels, adjusting things, etc, etc.
Chromoplastics take a little bit of work but once they are on they are great. Well worth the time it takes to get them right IMO. In fact I have a set here ready to go onto my road bike this weekend.
chromoplastics defos shouldn't take more than half an hour for a bike with proper eyelets and so on.
if you can be bothered (and admittedly this adds a modicum of faffage), ditch the daft brake bridge bracket on the rear guard.
drill a couple of wee holes then use cable ties to attach it properly.
this makes em completely rattle free and cobble proof.
