Just seen the replay Thomas was lucky there - looked like he just managed to avoid hitting the post full force. 😯

Class.

"The doctor will be asking me my name and date of birth soon."
"Can you remember either?"
"Yes...Chris Froome..."

think barguil chap should reconsider his approach to getting into the top 10. Hes done without play bumper bikes. That bang on the post may have been hard but what would have stopped Thomas if he'd not hit it?

I am not so sure, he did the same thing in at least 2 corners, went in too deep and fast barging other riders out of the way and endangering them. IMO he should receive a penalty for that kind of riding.

I wonder what the chances are of that happening to a French rider?

ITV4 replay says Barguil was bumped off line by TJVG. Put down yer pitchforks...maybe... He did look a bit sketchy on a few of the other corners! Young boy ain't he!

Thomas = legend. My head had already decided he'd broke his shoulder and was out of the race, to finish 40 secs back (or whatever it was) is mad!! Lolz at the interview too!

Meanwhile, in Foothills Ranch, Irvine, CA, a phone rings......

"Hello, It's SIR David Brailsford here......Yes, yes, yes, I know you don't make those white Jawbones any more.

But you WILL make some. Won't you?.......

Jolly good. Carry on."

Also - Jens Voigt wears Geraint Thomas pyjamas.

Liked this from Velonews...

Sagan seemed proud because on the line he pounded his chest like Matthew McConaughey in “The Wolf of Wall Street” and hummed. Asked why he is so aggressive, he said, “Cause I have big balls!”

I so want G to end up on the podium, if anyone deserves it it's him. Glad he's still in, I guess the rest day will help him recover properly.

Totally agree. Hell of a bloke, riding a top race, I like him significantly more than Froome, stunned he only lost 40s after that, thought he'd be straight off to the hospital.

Just seen on catch up, spat tea at the name and d.o.b? Chris Froome!

And also the round up, next time the telegraph pole will know to get out of the way.

Legend.

I don't buy that, he was entering the corner way too fast for his crap line, should have slammed on the anchors.

Lots of them seemed to take the corner on pretty shit lines IM(armchair)O.

A friend remarked (before today) that the harder it is, the more he enjoys it and thrives. Mind he won the Commonwealth Games road race in absolutely shite weather? 🙂

That off made me feel rather ???? Live. Watched the live feed of Wouter Weyland go down and this gave me the same reaction.."that's terminal" . TF I was wrong. It looked like a neck contact.

Could well have been gravel/shitty tarmac forcing 'em to fark it up. They definitely seemed to touch just before the corner but this could have well been him braaaping into the corner too fast and almost taking TJVG out before smashing into G.

So he claims. BS. If he'd not been riding like a plonker the contact wouldn't have happened and if it did it wouldn't have affected him in that way. Was already carrying too much speed and on the wrong line.

G is too classy to slag him off in public (how on earth does he manage to come up with that Chris Froome line after that), but I suspect there may be some more private words with Barguil about his riding.

Sean Yates is a big fan of G, maybe a fiver and a water bottle could be discretely handed to him and suitable retribution exacted.

Corr blimey you lot, it's racing. Bargil over cooked it, tried to slow down, touched G. It happens, it's racing, it's hard out there you know.
If he did it intentionally then hey fairynuff but it's just a racing incident, won't be the last one either.

Suppose as they crested the top in line, you stop them all and set them off one by one with time gaps and strict instructions not to overtake the guy in front 🙄

It's just racing, it's why we love it

Bikebouy speaks the truth there you know. Yes, it was a bit nasty, yes Bargil overcooked it but that's racing. G was fine, he didn't lose that much time and his fiancée has located him pair of white Jawbones. Happy days.

It's not "just racing". When you're involved in a dangerous sport you have a responsibility to consider the effect your actions will have on others and not be a dick (in the immortal words of CTBM).

Many accidents are near unavoidable, but not that one.

Bargil did over cook the corner & in the process took G off - an accident, it's racing but....I'd say he needs to reign it in a touch. There's racing, then there's (as the saying goes) writing cheques ones ego cannot cash..

I suspect a word may well have been had suggesting him to just take a little more care, for his sake as much as any other.

Given he went to find Geraint after the finish to apologise I'd imagine he's aware of what he did. Stuff happens in the heat of the moment at times.

was that Barguil chap responsible for the crash that put Cancellara (spelling?) out in the first week? If so he'll be very popular.

Barguil had got the bit between his teeth, he was taking more inside lines than Sam Hill.

Really enjoyable finish to the stage, despite no luck for Gee or poor Sagan.

G is quite definitely nails, was wincing when I saw the crash, looked like he ****ted his head off the telegraph pole, looked to me that his helmet was a bit dented on the left side at the finish. Glad to hear he's ok, can't believe he only lost 40s.

Corr blimey you lot, it's racing. Bargil over cooked it, tried to slow down, touched G.
bit more than a touch tho wasn't it? "Barge" would be closer. If it's a one off fair enough. If as others have said (I haven't seen footage) he nearly repeated it on other corners then he's a liability.

despite no luck for Gee or poor Sagan.
is everyone "first or nothing"? He seems to be the most consistent finisher, if the GC went off stage finish positions instead of time he'd probably be on the top step. Frustrating not to get a win but surely he should be getting a load of credit for the work he's done rather than every interview stating with "bad luck Peter, what went wrong?"
