Just had to arrange collection of my dirt bike from the Local Motorbike Shop.
I had dropped it in for an engine rebuild after dropping a valve.
Basically after being quoted £2k for the work, I had the great idea of scouring the internet for the parts.
I managed to source the parts cheaper than they had quoted so buoyed by this I offered to supply the parts for them to fit, thus saving myself some money.

subsequently, Im now on my way to collect a box of parts and a rolling chassis.
Problem I have now is that there are very few places to go to get the work done and its a **** of a lot of hassle.

Just a comparison to people who often come in to our shops with a box of parts from CRC and ask us to fit them. Which we do as were happy with charging for the labour.
Just a comarison of two industries that I thought would be very similar.
Just to mention Ive been going to this place for the last 6 years so thought I had a good relationship with them 🙁

i did work experience in a bike shop when CRC had a 2 page add in MBUK etc.

We used to charge labout + 10% rrp of the parts to fit other peoples stuff.

Was still worth it on forks. and some other items.

Sancho - I'm probably being thick here, but is there part of your post missing?

I'm guessing the motorbike shop declined your kind offer to source the parts for them?

so you bought the parts without any idea of what you will be charged to fit them ?
How do you know you will save money? and it has cost you time as well

Is there not an engine builder/tuner local to you?

Sorry - to be clear
simply the suggestion of me sourcing the parts was enough for the mechanics to have a fit and hand me back my bike in pieces.

Now Im looking for another place to go, but not many in Leeds that Id trust.

So I take it you asked them to strip it and investigate?

Were you going to supply genuine new parts?

Yeah they stripped it to investigate and then quoted me a bill that I choked on.
I got quotes for genuine Yamaha parts.

but I just was comparing to what happens with us when we detemine a problem on a customers bike and they then source parts online which we then fit.
I guess it dosent work in other industries.

Erm no not really... Crash your 500£ arai carbon helmet and as for a crash replacement.
Trash your YZ250 until the chassis breaks and ask for a warranty job.
Buy a duke and try to get a free service/fitting.
We as mtber are well too spoiled.

Gave up on motorbikes several years ago, expensive toys quickly turn into money pits... unless you know how to service and fix them yourself.
