RestlessNative what would be the point in him finishing the tour of ireland on Sunday? He wasn't in contention, wasn't under pressure from his team and had nothing to prove in riding a pretty dangerous circuit.
Do you know how many abandoned, it wasn't like he was the only one.

it is a stupid end to a race I think as anyone not in contention has no incentive to cycle past thier team bus and up the hill
