The better half fancies a wee go at “that zwift thing” so thought I’d try and cobble together something suitable that can use the cassette already on my trainer.
I’ve got an ultegra dbl crankset and just snagged some 105 flat bar shifters so only need a frameset and derailleurs… I think. This doesn’t need to work as a real bike only a zwift bike.
I was thinking about getting a cheap, used ladies bike and stripping everything off it. As long as it has 130mm rear and a 68mm BB shell I should be good to go right? Most of these “ladies bikes” follow the above standards (I think) and would work with a band-on FD as long as they can run the cables and have a hanger for the RD (so not one specifically for hub gears) it should be OK.
Anyone done something similar, am I missing something?
.
Yeah, I zwift on a bike that's not roadworthy
I too zwift on a bike that isn't roadworthy (no brakes, some frame damage, I don't have a rear wheel that fits it).
I admire your perspective that now you have got a crankset and cassette "all" you need is a frameset and shifters. But your plan should work.
same, my old Focus Cayo sits on the turbo, carbon is delaminating around the drop outs so I'd be crazy to take it out on the road but its perfectly fine on the turbo, I stripped the brakes of it to save weight :p
