Hi all,

Wanting to sell my BMX as it's not being used. It seems to have been lacquered over an unpainted finish.

There is quite a bit of surface rust, especially around the BB, chainstays etc, as well as in a lot of the scratches.

I've tried getting some of it off with fine sand paper, but it's not great, it just seems to scratch up the lacquer if anything.

Any suggestions on what to do (apart from just selling as is)?

Ta, Duane.

If it's under the laquer you'd have to remove the laquer to remove the rust.

Cheepest way would be to take it to a local powdercoaters and have it stripped and coated in any colour you want, might not do clear though as usualy they put some sort of protective coating on the metal or a primer before the top coat.

Personaly I'd leave it, it's unlikely to affect the price by the £50+massive hastle it'll cost to strip, paint and rebuild it.

I think what has happened is that in places the lacquer has been scratched/worn/scuffed off, and that's where most of the rust is.
