I'm also lacing a dynamo hub (shimano XT) which is not far off the same size, flange wise. I've learnt from experience that 26" wheels need to be 2 cross to stop them snapping at the nipples, is it tr same for 700c/29er wheels?

Not sure about the rear, but I did my alfine dynamo hub 3 cross on 29" rims. Year and a half so far with no issues.
