Looking for ideas for next summer, having seen the E- bike video doing the rounds, it reminded me, i really must get my finger out and get into Knoydart, ride in and maybe climb a few munro's, anyone walked these, wonder if any would make good descents? quite partial to hike a bike for a little reward.
The plan would be to ride in via Kinloch Hourne, i get the impression it might involve a lot of pushing.
I'd only consider cycling in Knoydart if Hannah Barnes accompanied me 😀
Is that on offer? 😉
Oh, and from Jamie a few years back .

3 of us stayed in Inverie about 5 years ago having taken the ferry from Mallaig ..had an excellent time ..most of our riding was out and back ..
We had pre- booked a small charter boat " Callana" with Ian Wilson for the final day to take us over to Tarbet where we crossed over to ride back along the shore of Loch Morar to our cars which we had parked in a local hotel on the first day ..having got permission from the owner
I will look back on my map and pm you some further details ..when I get a chance ..😁
After all the hype at the time about how good the food was in the Old Forge ..I found it disappointing and the small waterfront cafe was much better !
To be honest i think i have a man crush on Joe.
A mate & I spent two days (without bikes) doing a handful of Corbetts in eastern Knoydart last April; we walked out via the Barrisdale to Kinlochhourn path, and there are a lot of photos here Geotrip of the whole day - click on each of the little blue dots along the coastal path for details. I thought at the time that parts of it would be rideable, but there will certainly be a lot of pushing/hike-a-bike too, all the more so if you were carrying kit for climbing a couple of the Munros, and/or stopping in the Barrisdale bothy overnight in between. Some of the steeper bits are quite rubbly. The path up and down to the Mam Unndalain is certainly more rideable, which suggests that the one over the Mam Barrisdale is probably OK too.
The Mam Barrisdale path would be fine on a bike but I agree that taking a bike in is probably just too much hassle when the walking is so good. My next trip to Knoydart will involve a packraft.
I rode Knoydart earlier this year so you don’t have to. Glenfinnan to Sourlies, then the direct route to Barrisdale and out to Kinlochhourn. There’s a hell of a lot of pushing, and not much riding.
The riding that you do get is nice, with a sublime descent to Barrisdale, but the section out to Kinlochhourn is pretty awful with a bike. I took my fat bike which helped on the soggy stuff, but it was definitely the least worst option.
I’d never ride it again, but at the same time I’m happy that I did it. It makes any riding anywhere else seem that little bit easier - for example I seem to be the only person who enjoyed riding the Lairig Ghru (which was done post-Knoydart)
Me and a friend rode out from Inverie to Kinlochourn via Barrisdale about 10 years ago as the 1st day of a Coast to Coast route (we got the ferry from Mallaig to Knoydart). We were blessed with a beautiful hot sunny day. From what I remember the ride over to Barrisdale was fine, especially the descent on the Barrisdale side, may of had to push some of the way up. The path from Barrisdale to Kinlochourn was challenging, lots of getting on and off the bike and at least 2 quite tough 'Hike a Bike' sections. Was a brilliant day out, but having tee shirt and shorts weather really helped. From Kinlochhourn we followed the road all the way to the great glen where we stayed the night. We were travelling quite light with 35lt rucksacks each.
I've walked in to Sourlies from the end of the road along Loch Arkaig. Personally I wouldn't even contemplate cycling that way.
Sourlies is in an amazing place. Great views, particularly of the pointy shaped Corbett whose name I can't recall without going to look it up. There are mice in the bothy.
Knoydart is a great place to explore. My mates and I have discussed approaching Barisdale by boat next time.

This. I ran that track a few years ago and have no intention of going back with a bike.
