Went out with Caz and Martin again today.

Martin showed us how to do the drop

Caz cleared quite a bit of new rocky stuff she hadn't last week

And I suppose bike karma caught up with me for posting so many mid week rides when most of you are in offices. I tried to take on board the philosophy "momentum is your friend" but all that happened was that I went fast over my handlebars and landed on those rocks on the right.

Still a bit sore but could have been a lot worse so feeling quite lucky really.

But yeah, was soon back up and running and clearing McMoab with just one or two dabs * cough *

A bit of a push for us all up Heartbreak Hill, and then it was all that endless, mile after mile of fantastic singletrack!

Didn't take too many photos - too busy whooping and hollering and going weeeee. A top Thursday out and thanks to Mr Pyekid for the coffee and cake afterwards in the sun.

Looks fun! What's the black like? Is it very tricky? We did the red at the beginning of the Summer (probably the tamest of the reds by quite a way), but I think if we head there in the winder, the boys would probably be up for the red... How long did it take you guys to get around?

That section after Heartbreak Hill is amongst my favourite bits of trail anywhere.

Did you do the big ramp off McMoab Simon?

Buzz - cheers but my photos do not do the singletrack any justice at all. There were loads of photo opportunities with some lush green mosses in the woods and the orange leaves which had just fallen in places, but we were too busy riding.

MountainMonkey - I can ride the black no problems. It is more red grade with just a few tricky rock sections each a few metres (although hissing Sid is a bit of a bigger rock section of maybe 20m). The black on the whole is awesome fun to ride, even by me and I sometimes struggle on a few red bits. It is more of a black grade trail due to length rather than technicality. But yeah, there are more than enough technical sections to keep the riding gods of STW grinning from ear to ear.

For me there seemed to be quite a few frustrating bits that I think I could clear on a second attempt, but more often than not I would stop thinking it was a bit beyond me but then you'd look back and think it wasnt so bad, or you would look back and see the line you should have taken.

John - If I were ever to actually do McMoab it would be up here on lights in technicolour with video and everyone would know about it! ๐Ÿ˜€ I did though do a drop I have not done before coming back home on the red and that was a big enough rush for me!

Rob

That is probably around 30 mins into a ride on the outbound red. It is an evil looking drop but there is a red chicken run. It's v hard to miss but maybe you didnt see the red/black sign just before? I have never ridden it - it's just too steep and the other issue I have is that after you drop the singletrack curves to the left so you have to turn at the bottom.

Thanks guys, do 'mind a couple of 'red or black' signs on the route right enough. Definitely want to go back & see if Mcmoab can be done dab-less, doubt it with SPDs on. Lovely section though innit? Wish I'd had time to section it a few times. Attempted to ride back up the big slope, but thoughts of what to do if you stop overrode the old synapses. Good scones at the cafe too.

Rob - from a previous thread on STW I do believe the received wisdom is that McMoab is a piece of p*** to do without dabbing so long as you can be bothered to lower your saddle.

I on the other hand was a bit bored of cycling at that point and fancied a bit of a walk and carry, you know, just for a change.

We did the red at the beginning of the Summer (probably the tamest of the reds by quite a way),

Do you mean tamest of the blue routes? Because the red route isn't tame at all ๐Ÿ˜€
