My eldest son is 5 (smallish for his age). He's currently riding a 12" jyro bike (he loves it) which is too small for him now.
I've been looking at the Ridgeback 16" wheel bikes (mx16),but I'm wondering will it be a short lived expense??
Take a look at Islabikes website. They specialise in kids bikes of all ages and top notch quality. I'm sure there will be something there appropriate.
Islabike is wayyy out of my pocket stretch Lol. Hence the ridgeback.
Used one then maybe? They do hold their value well so could actually work out cheaper overall
My 4yo is riding a Spesh Hotrock and loving it. Not quite got used to the back pedal brake yet, but he's getting there. I paid about £70 for it on eBay
we went straight from a conc14 to a 20" wheeled bike, which was a BIG step, the next one will have a 16" bike to play with at Christmas.. she is 4 1/3 and is maxed out on the 14" bike already...
Go used, avoid Apollo, almost everything is pretty good these days. And it's 12-16-20-24". You've left first graduation a little late, but I view bikes like shoes, you don't make them wear too small shoes (I hope).

I have an old MX16 you can have for virtually nothing. Other wise go for Carrera blast 16inch there are tons on Gumtree or ebay for £30-50. I only switched to Islabike at 20 inch.
We went to Islabike's shop (near my folks) to look at bikes for my big 5yo as her 12" bike was way too small. They said to skip 16" and even small 20", and suggested the large 20".
In the end though we got a Pinnacle 20" which is similar to the Beinn 20 large, and it's a cracking bike. Slightly heavier than the Islabike but then it has much chunkier tyres which could be a plus.
Where in the world are you stainypants??
16 is very shirt lived IME as 20" have gears - mine were also small and were on them by about 5 or 6 and looked like they were perched upon a gate.
I would also not spend much on a 16 " bike
Hi,
I'm Macclesfield, I'll can send you some photos and I'll look into posting.

See i think 16" is better than 14". balance bike, 10", 16", 20" is how son has gone. He had the 16" for a couple of years.
Gonna be selling his 16" Carrera blast, but haven't got round to it. I'm in Leeds if you're interested? and you don't go for Stainypants MX16 obviously.
Email is in my profile 🙂
I see your point junky. I do keep wondering if 20" is better (ooh err) but a cheaper 16" won't hurt (fnarr fnarr)
MX16 are great bikes, and they do last a while as they have a fair bit of adjustment. But buy 2nd hand if you can - they are so simple that unless they have been left outside they should be fine. Once they get bigger then Islabikes are the way to go as they are so much lighter than most other bikes - though there are some new brands about that could be good.
