Anyone take their kids to Glentress regularly? Had some great days there the last couple of weeks with my 6 year old. Would be fun to join up with some like-minded parents / kids. I know the Peebles Cycling Club does a Saturday morning thing, but their website seems to have last been updated in 2006, so couldn't get much from that....
Used to take my boys there when they were 4 on the tag-a-long. Many great times!
Did a night ride round the red with a tag-a-long. great fun, even if I did have to go round rather than over the jumps.
This could just be local chat, but the PCC kids club waiting list is rather long. As in, when you are out on a 1st date with a lady and it's going well, put your kids names down on the waiting list.
Thanks Hels - could well be the case - guess mine will be 16 by the time he gets in then - bit too late for kids club.
Well, maybe an informal meet and ride is a good alternative.....anyone?
Take the kids on a regular but sporadic basis.
They are on the list for the Peebles CC kids club. The waiting list is about a year at the moment, although they are trying to reduce the wait by getting more helpers.
I'd suggest meeting up, but the age difference is a bit much, my 9 and 11 yr olds do quite a lot, whilst my 3yr old can just do the green...

You're my new hero. I have a 5 month old and I would love to be able to say that 11 years from now.
(Although I would probably like to say, "I am abroad racing with my 9 and 11 yr olds most weekends..."
P.S. is there any in-date info about PCC?
take mine (not all that often tho) 14yr old isn't interested at all, 10yr old is, 9yr old enjoys it but would rather be climbing/shopping/with mates and 2yr old loves it.
doubt I'll be down with them that much over the winter TBH
Chris, tried a weeride or tag along? - blue/red easily do-able with the wee one (dep on daddy's skill level/fitness too I suppose;) )

Is it just me that thinks that there is an easy way round this? Volunteer as a helper and your kid jumps to the top of the list?
Why would you need to get them in a club?
I take my 8 year old and if he had his way we would be down every weekend. The first time he did the whole blue on his BMX and the wee secret rooty trail near the top of the freeride . The next time we hired hime a ridgeback from Alpine and he was much quicker. He is getting a mtb for xmas and Im fairly sure Ill be plagued to death to take him down on Boxing day.
My daughter of 7 went down the blue - she was nervy but overcame all the tough bits by repeatedly shouting "chocolate cake" as a mantra as she tackled them. It was some sort of fear-aversion technique that replaced the thought of danger with the thought of the reward awaiting her at the bottom. It worked!
OP - have often thought the same thing. I take my 6yo pretty often. He's gutted the hub cafe's shut. He's comfortable on the blue bits and starting to ask about the red.
Was down a couple of Sundays ago with Mrs Tyred and both Tyreds Jr (6 and 3) - the first pop at the green for the 3yo. He loved it, but more so when we sort of joined up with a couple of dads in charge of a handful of kids round about the same ages as mine. The kids all dumped their bikes at the end of the green and went clambering up the dangerous rock face, having a whale of a time.
2tyred - maybe I'll PM you when I'm planning my next trip - I travel down from Edinburgh.
Last trip, my lad spent as much time messing about in the burn above red squirrel car park as he did on the trails, so it's a multi-event centre.
it's a real pity some knobends vandalised the hut at the end of the green, wee ones always had fun there and if you're there long enough nearly always met other kids to play with.
GW - got a tag for next year. She's a bit too small for it at the moment, and I'd be afraid that she'd fall asleep too!
gonsfishin - I've volunteered to help, I wait to see if that helps me jump the list.
2tyred - I was one of the dads there. My eldest was with the wives doing the blue.
Dair - forgot to say, it seems that PCC have a google group with some info on. How to subscribe is on thir site.
The guys there seem really good and enthusiastic, just not on updating the web site and publicity. I guess they don't need to be.

If anyone can tell me how to get a **** picasa picture on a forum, rather than a link that doesn't work, I'd appreciate it!

Good times, the kids love getting together with similar wee groms!
