…..with his handlebars on completely the wrong way round! I’m not talking upside down, but totally back to front. God knows what way round his brakes were on, but his elbows were sticking out a bit because of the angle of his grips. Actually I’ve just realised why they were like that. His stem had been rotated 180 degrees and was facing backwards. Some parents are just not very practical I guess.
Just like putting temporary turn ups trousers, turn the bars round and you can buy a bike thats too big! #futureproofing
But is it more stable than with the fork backwards and the bars the right way around? Maybe someone just told him his forks are on backwards and this was the logical (partial) solution.
was it set-up like that, or just the whole lot rotated around (handlebars, stem, fork etc....)?
I have a vague memory that me & a mate used to randomly ride round with our handlebars rotated all the way round for a laugh. So, everything was reversed. I could only twist the bars round one way as the cables got too tight doing it the other way.
We also used to ride round with our arms crossed over; so right hand on left grip & vice versa.
Hours of fun & managed to avoid any expensive dental reconstruction!
Should be fine, kids don't need bars, they earn street cred by cycling no-handed along busy A roads. 😉
We will all be doing it next year
I'm sure mondraker toyed with negative stems before settling on 10mm as being short enough.
10mm is certainly a look.
We use to that on purpose for a laugh.
Half the kids in p1 at our school have forks on back to front and look happy.
I did double check the forks and they were the right way round amazingly. We did used to angle our drop bars on our racers right up in the air so it made it easier to wheelie.
I once bought a specialized camber that had the bars on the wrong way. Stem was ok, brake levers were correct but his arthritis meant that he was comfier with the elbow angle of the reverse bars (EA50’s iirc)
he also had these mental platform/pad grips to support his wrists. Maybe this kid had the same affliction?
My mate's dad runs the stem on his bike backwards to shorten the reach (I assume). He had a motorbike accident in his younger days (now 70 odd) so has some hip issues, but it just looks plain wrong, and I imagine it must handle like a total pig. I can't help thinking that if he needs to flip the stem like that then he needs a different shaped bike!
Ship tiller ahoy!
DrP
Probably just wanted to run his brakes euro style.
I wouldn't worry about it, he'll probably be deported soon #BrexitBonus
My mate’s dad runs the stem on his bike backwards
Maybe he has watched this Youtube video, and is trying to learn how to manual!
Is the camerman taking the world's longest piss from1:26?
Initially I thought the whole video might be one long Piss take, but I think he's serious!
