I was planning on running 2.2" UST RQs on some 21mm wide WTB tubeless rims, but might have to go for some narrower 819s if I want to build the wheels this year...

Pretty sure I've seen people runnning the two but can anyone confirm its OK?

Cheers

You can run (wider) on any rim IMO - just depends on what pressures you like.

FWIW I've got a Deisel (2.5) fine on mine, I don't run low pressures on it though, and it's a cheap/stiff carcass.

Yes I have that combo on (RQ 2.2 + 819), though am thinking of going to Nobby Nic's instead and popping the RQ back on when it's drier.

I have a 2.2 and 2.4 RQ on 819s, nae bother. I just did the opposite and put the queen back on the front to replace a NN, reckoning it would be better in the current conditions. Why do you think the NN is better in the winter? RQ seems a grippier tyre to me.

Nice, cheers guys, I was sure I'd seen someone in Edinboro doing it, must have either been you Garry_Lager, or TJ.

Edit: Cynic_al, I know what you mean, I should have asked "are they horribly prone to rolling under average riding conditions" but I reckoned if they were, someone would have something to say about it!

Mavic measure the internal width of their rims while other manufacturers quote the outside width. They might be the same.

I regularly ran 2.3" tyres on my 717 rims, no bother.

Just the experience of riding on ice with guys using NN's, I was having a right game, slipping everywhere, where-as the rest of the group were not suffering in the slightest. To be fair I like the RQ but it's not a great winter tyre is all
Though to be honest, I have no personal experience of the NN's either...

Zippy - I took my RQs off for winter after finding the shallow tread clogged up easily in some mud/snow conditions, but in other places it was brilliant - so I suspect opinions will vary.

13thfloormonk - Did you buy the RQs yet? I have a 2.2 UST in mint condition to flog, email in profile if interested.

ooOOoo, cheers, but the RQ 2.2 is everyone else's 2.verybig, hence the question.

I would actually have been interested in the XR4s a la snakebite, but when I had RQs before I swore I would get some in black chilli if they were ever released.

Cha****ng, its the black chilli ones I'm interested in, can't imagine yours is UST, 2.2" and black chilli is it?
