My nephew has gone all rad and is looking for a jump bike, a while back there was some lovely looking Commencal Max's floating about for not a lot of money but a search has not found one under the £330 mark, anyone have a link to the cheap one or are they all gone now?
Or, he has at the moment a Specialized Hardrock disc, its a great bike really, better than the entry level Max anyhow, if I put a super short stem on it and a chain device on the front so it still ran 9 speed, would it change it enough in character to be more of a play/jump bike?
Depends on the frame size. If the hardrock is a bit big for him, then it will make a terrible jump bike, if it's a bit small, it will make a great one. Just singlespeed it to save on broken parts.
