I think a jones loop bar might be a good thing to try, but they cost lots of money. Is thete any reason not to get the on-one copy? If that works OK, what do I get for the extra hundred quid if I upgrade to a jones?
THanks!
The Geoff? I bought one and found it hard going. Heavy and I couldn't find a comfortable position. Switched back to narrowish flat bars with ends.
the on one version fitted with some nice squishy grips......... perfect.
and just like jones bars. i use both.
I've got the Geoff bars and combined with Ergon grips it seems to have sorted out my wrist issues. I really like them on my rigid plus bike for riding wheels on the ground xc.
I'd been trying wider and wider swept bars and while they made things better the Geoff's seem to have solved the issue.
I tried the geoff bars and tbh really didn’t like them.
I would have been quite upset if I’d ponied up for the real thing.
I've got some of the on one bars and it's taken a bit of time to get used to them. I've just bought some long grips to get the brake levers position more where they're apparently supposed to be.
I'd happily sell my used 3 times on the turbo Geoff bars but, they are such an awkward shape that postage and packing is a pain, so I can't be bothered.
Got Geoff bars on my rigid 29er. Took a little time to set up the best angle, but sorted now and like them a lot. Got PX to fit them to the bike I'd ordered, with the OE riser bars in the box if I didn't get on with the loop bars. Never felt the need to fit the risers....
You'll probably need to factor in a new stem, too - probably shorter/higher rise than your current one, all other things being equal.
It took me a while (and with some great advice on here) to get the Geoffs dialled in. It took a short stem with some considerable rise to make them feel a little less cafe-racerish with the bars were rotated back to the recommended.
Ultimately it turned out I had no use for them and tbh didn’t really get on with them. Also found them heavy, very rigid and quite uncomfortable.

I think my stem is something like 30mm already. Yikes.
It was on special last week for £22 and I was tempted, I might take a punt when it's next reduced in price...
Not Geoff's, but I've had a few pairs of Jones loop bars over the years and I am a full paid up member of the Jones bar club. I find them excellent on rigid bikes particularly and are great for endurance racing where my wrists tend to start aching on 'normal' bars. I've had them on a Surly 1x1 and Pugsley, Pipedream ALICE and now my Stooge MK4.
Pros:
- Very comfy
- Quite a few options for manufacturer and colour/material (black/silver/carbon)
- More hand position options
- Regularly appear on eBay so 'bargains' to be had
Cons:
- Costly
- Heavy compared to similarly priced flat/riser bars
- 'Loop' bit gets in the way of a light beam when the light is mounted in the usual way
- Can take a bit of tweaking to get right

Go longer in that case - an old spare 80-90mm stem is good with loop bars. The end part of the loop grip area is roughly in line with the steerer if you use an 80mm stem.
Are the On One bars butted Al? If not the Jones bars may be a tad lighter than the On One but they're still fairly heavy and rigid bars overall compared to the old Ti H bar or a non-looped bar. Jones have a cheaper PG version also. It's the shape/comfort and practicality I rate on a rigid XC / long distance bike. The price of the Jones bars is steep though.

As soon as I fitted mine I realised I'd need a longer stem. As soon as I rode with the original stem I realised I didn't 🙂
I need a lot of sweep and really wanted the Geoffs to work. Very handy for carrying stuff and having a light out front and central. Massive sweep of course.
With negative rise (you need to point them down a bit) they were sadly too short for me. Already had all the spacers on of course.
OG bars are perfect for me for bikepacking and were cheaper too, perhaps get both?
I've got the Geoffs and really like them. Contrary to what some are saying they felt great straight out the box for me. I see no need to spend the extra on the Jones version.
I'm a huge fan of high sweep bars but Jones are a bit too much for me. However there are many options to explore, all of which are a lot cheaper 🙂
I've got the Jones bars on my Sonder Broken Road. To start with I swapped between them and standard risers, depending on whether I was bikepacking or just bashing out local stuff.
Now they're on permanently, as they give me a very comfortable upright position. I find this ideal for things like the Bearbones 200 and any long days in the saddle. My hands seem to just rest on the "Ergon" grips, rather than all my weight being on my arms.
I find the hand position perfect for hoisting up the steeps. A bit comedy on really steep techie descents, as your hand want to slide forwards. Oh, and shite at tight switchbacks, as they hit your knees! But I love them, for what I want them to do.
@abingham - where do you mount your light in the 'usual way'. All the loop riders I know, including me, mount their lights on the actual loop. Your light ends up being very central and out the way of cables etc
I have had a few sets of loops. Now on carbon loops on my rigid solaris, have a spare set of loops just in case

I’ve been looking at trying those for a while now. Especially the v2 which is claimed to have shed weight? I got on well with Mary bars on a 26er but feel this 29er business needs some extra width so don’t know if their 645mm would fit the bill? Probably. But the OGs have more lights etc-mounting options where a Mary didn’t.
Still have a lot of love for Ergon GP3 grip/ends too.
^ Yes, OG V2 with GP3s work a treat for me for bikepacking on the fattie. On paper the Ritchey Kyote look like a wider version of the same; I tried these but they didn't work for me.
For trail riding though I switch to the wider and taller, but not quite as sweepy, lush, Stooge Motos with silicone grips.
After years on Mary bars I tried the Geoffs and found I had to bring them up and back to get the right position.

I liked the Geoffs, but prefer the OGs I am now running for general duties. I converted the frameset I had the Geoffs on to a monstercross thing that is now running these Redshift bars (this morning...):

I prefer the Redshifts but of course they opened up a whole can of compatibility worms that the Geoffs avoid. I'll use the Geoffs again at some point (they weigh 571g, btw...) but, between them, the OG and Redshift bars cover the bases.
Jut an update to this: I had a bit of a look around and decided that Surly Molokos have what I want. First couple of rides have confirmed what I hoped, but what's better is that JuniorStevious now has loads of different grips when he's on the shotgun seat:
@stevious that wins the cute picture of the day award. I bet he loves those!
